Black Forge

The Black Forge is one of the most guarded and defended locations in the whole of the United A'Mi Duchies. It is each duke's solomn responsibility to defend the Black Forge, and the town of Blackhold and Black Island in general, more ferociously than he would his own lands. The forge has many secrets, many mages and smiths go there to train and never emerge, with the public face of the forge revealing nothing beyond cryptic messages that blur the line between reassuring and threatening. Despite its alien appearance and frightening rumours, the Black Forge remains the only source of Shadowsteel in the world, and the Forgemasters and Dukes are understandibly worried about their prized material getting into the hands of a possible enemy. Unlike what some would have you believe, you would not be killed on sight if you tried to enter the Black Forge, though a forge officer would calmly ask you to leave for the purposes to UAD security.

Purpose / Function

To produce weapons and armament for the United A'Mi Duchies via the creation and refinement of Shadowsteel. To expand upon the knowledge of A'Mi Umbramages.

Architecture

A black stone, fashioned from the basalt of the Black Island. Its rough hewn walls provide a very strict and efficient look to the Black Forge.

History

When Umbramancy was formalised, Black Island was seen as the perfect place to build all manner of buildings that would gain from the heavy concentration of Umbramagic energy on the island. The forge was the first of these to be built, back when Blackhold was still called Dark Town and was no larger than a sizeable village. The original forge was smaller than the modern version, and over the years it was expanded upon as the United Duchies' demand for Shadowsteel grew and grew. Over time the Shadowsteel produced by the forge became more and more arcane, and knowledge of its production method was seriously restricted and production of it anywhere but in the Black Forge was outlawed.
