Clan Greatorex is an clan in the United Commonwealth; it is considered as one of the Overclans. It's founders are Her Grace Verity Anne Greatorex, the first person to set foot on the surface of the The New World, and His Grace Killian Guy Turner. The current Overlord Greatorex is Arthur Johnothan Greatorex-Turner who, for clan retention, married his third-cousin Alberta Anne Greatorex-Turner. Clan Greatorex-Turner is the wealthiest clan in the United Commonwealth after Clan Victoriæ-Royal.
Clan Greatorex-Turner, it's allies, branches, and clients, own the largest mining and smelting corporation in the United Commonwealth - the Greatorex Metals Group - as-well as interests in the construction, construction management, and heavy machinery. Additionally, they own a significant proportion of the colony of Dauntless, from where the majority of their operations are based.
The current seat of Clan Greatorex-Turner is the palatial Our Lady of Grace Verity Anne Greatorex House located in central Dauntless overlooking First Station Common. Clan Greatorex-Turner has been invovled with Dauntless since it's founding in 38 YAV when Verity's son Peter Killian Turner (retro. Greatorex-Turner) was appointed as the first governor. That Clan Greatorex-Turner maintains it's seat and primary power-base outside of the capital at Vouchsafe is atypical.

History

Clan Greatorex-Turner's founders are Her Grace Verity Anne Greatorex and His Grace Killian Guy Turner. Verity Anne Greatorex was appointed as pilot and mission commander of the Advent Shuttle, the first manned trip to the surface of the New World. As mission commander, she was repsonsible for planting the royal standard on the New World and announcing the Proclamation on the Annexation of Cape Dominion.
Verity Anne Greatorex, both a skilled mathematician and engineer and bestowed with permanent prestige, retained a a position of prominence within colonial Vouchsafe for the remainder of her life - contributing to the creation and development of the initial electrical, life-support, and other systems of the first colony. She died on 02/05/47 (22/10/2418, or D+96230) aged 82; she had four children of which two were girls - therefore spawning two branches.
In 38 YAV, James Killian Turner was appointed as governor of the Dauntless colony through lobbying of Verity Greatorex to then long-time friend and monarch Queen Rhona II. James K. Turner would be succeeded by his own daughter Glorianne Verity Turner (retro. Lawson-Kavangh) as colonial governor. Greatorex-Turner children, receiving the best education available and spending considerable amounts of time in the new colony would succeed and occupy positions of importance in both Dauntless's civil administration and the commercial operation of the mining and smelting operations.
With the formation of the clans in 128 YAV, and their incorporation in 147 YAV, the Crown Estate would transfer ownership of a considerable amount of the Dauntless industry to then Clan Overlord Jenifry Anne Greatorex-Turner. Relying on existing, and forming new, alliances with Dauntless's premier Clans, Jenifry would found the Greatorex Metals Group under their name and create one of the largest and most powerful companies in the United Commonwealth.

As an Overclan, Clan Greatorex-Turner sits astride a large web of allied and client clans estimated to be at-least four levels deep. Notably these include: the Clan Swan-Greatorex, of whom Verity's brother, Alexander Norman, is the Overfather; and Clan Mcgowen-Chalmers whose Overmother, Mirabelle Clover Mcgowen, was Verity's cousin. Clan Greatorex has numerous inter-relations within the Clan Victoriæ-Royal; Queen Catherine III was a Greatorex by patrilineal heritage as-well as six other marriages between Clan Greatorex-Turner and the Royal Family since Landfall.
