The Treaty of Thunder Creek

The Treaty of Thunder Creek is perhaps one of the most important documents within the history of Vicheve. Now proudly on display within the Thunder Creek museum, located at the heart of the historical landmark battleground, it is an important part of history as well an ever-standing reminder of the hopelessness and destructive property that war brings with it.

Purpose

Written to end the Battle of Thunder Creek, the bloodiest and most costly battle fought upon the shores of Aeetos, the Treaty called for an immediate ceasefire in the interest in preserving the lives of the soldiers on both sides rather than throwing them away in the never-ending stalemate that the war had ground itself into.

Historical Details

Background

The Treaty of Thunder Creek ended the Battle of Thunder Creek within one day, bringing an end to over a year of stalemate trench warfare that had been ongoing across the Creek. Signed in the Creek itself by the leaders of both sides of the conflict as well as their allies, it brought peace to all.

History

The Battle of Thunder Creek was the bloodiest and most costly battle taking place on the continent of Aeetos. The clash between the Elves of the West Coast and their Orc allies and the Human Settlers of the East Coast with their Dwarven allies, known as the War for Aeetos, had been ongoing for 5 years across the continent when the Battle of Thunder Creek took place. At the outset of the war, the Elves had pushed deep into the Human Lands, with the intent of reclaiming the lands the Humans had settled, driving them far back to the East. As the Humans gained reinforcements from across the Great Stride along with their supplies, they dug in and stood against the Elves. Eventually, they managed a breakthrough of the Elven lines, turning the tide and driving them back across the continent all the way to Thunder Creek.   At Thunder Creek, the Elves stood strong. They dug in ahead of the Human and Dwarven advance, lining the West side of the Creek with fortified positions and defensive garrisons. As the Humans and Dwarves closed on their position, they held their ground, causing the attackers to find the need to dig in and build their own defensive positions. So began an awful, bloody stalemate year of fighting.   Throughout the year, both sides tried their hardest to push through only to pushed back. Magic and steel was traded in equal measures, both sides formulating new methods in which to push through and take the other side of the Creek. Neither succeeded, with every attempt to hold land on the foe's side resulting in a massacre as the invading force was routed.

Public Reaction

Civilians on both sides of the conflict as well as the rest of Vicheve reacted with joy and relief at the signing of this Treaty. The War for Aeetos was costly to everyone involved and the economy and home life of civilians had been greatly affected so the return to normalcy was widely accepted in no time at all.

Legacy

The signing of the Treaty of Thunder Creek led to the Declaration of Division, dividing Aeetos equally between the Humans of the East and the Elves of the East with Thunder Creek serving as the basis for the dividing line of the continent.
