The Outskirts

The Outskirts is the name given by the dwellers of Veyetræll to the land outside the valley.   Once a fertile land, it was made hostile by the Outer Gods.

Myths of the Outskirts

The Rootfolk believe the Trællites were punished by the "demons" called the "Outer Gods", for their abuse of the land in the Outskirts. Traellites themselves have a much more complex view of this; as the Outer Gods were formerly worshipped by the ancestors of some, and still worshipped today by others, alternate narratives exist.   The Rootfolk, having never been outside since a thousand years, have a fear of the Outskirts that cannot be quelled. The exception is the followers of Tosten, the Raindrop Priests. These priests have a thought that there must be water elsewhere, a sort of sister basin to the Veyetræll water complex. This belief is called the Myth of Elsewater.

Geography

The Outskirts are very diverse, but very few inhabitants of Veyetræll ever go there. It is thought that the geography is very inhospitable, comprising of ancient dead forests, deserts and badlands.   Only three exits guard the Outskirts, and what lies beyond is kept secret by the respective kingdoms.

Fauna & Flora

It is thought that no diversity of fauna and flora is present, a sort of "dead zone" where demons roam.   Some go out in hopes of finding great beasts to hunt, but never return.

History

It was once the home of the Trællites, various tribes who now colonize Veyetræll.   As the Outer Gods unleashed their fury upon their lands, these tribes had no choice but to build up weapons to fight the magical denizens of Radias, a country which once encompassed all of Veyetræll. The Invasion then began and was won by the encroaching groups of displaced tribes.
