The Stricken

In the heart of The Tempest Preserve, lightning strikes violently and frequently. As the Storm Gravel is blasted from these electric barrages, Lightning Trees sprout from the sands. The strength of the bolts of electric energy determine the size of these magnificent structures. As thunder echoes throughout the expanse, the Lightning Trees flicker dim-glowing golden light. The area of the desert with the highest concentration of Lightning Trees has been named “The Forsaken Groves”.   Many decades ago, a tribe of natives in The Tempest Preserve came across The Forsaken Groves, and proclaimed it to be a holy place. Many of that tribe became the first to form The Stricken religion, believing the gods above could control the world’s weather and storms. They believed the a higher power was trying to communicate with them through these electrical surges, and that the Forsaken Groves was a demonstration of their godly-might. To honor and appease the gods, The Stricken constructed a temple of worship a few miles north of the preserve. They decorated the outsides of the structure with broken pieces of Lightning Trees, otherwise known as “Storm Glass”. They named it Thunder’s Compass Temple, due to the temple lighting up whenever thunder rolls through.    The religion still exists in Vexora, with most of it’s followers being natives of The Tempest Preserve or extreme Guardians of Vexora radicals. Although the church is welcoming, to become a member with access to Thunder’s Compass Temple requires a dangerous prerequisite: in order to enter the threshold of the temple, you must have been struck by lightning after reaching adulthood. Because of this requirement the temple is not overly populated, but there are still many followers of the faith who simply don’t have temple access.
