Yithal Tropa

The Yithal Faithful

Many of the Goblin tribes worship the traditional god of their ancestors, a religion that is as old as the Thritic and Giant religions. Yithal Tropa, as it is known, involves the monotheistic worship of one being, known as Yog Yithal. Yog's devotees are exclusively goblinoid, as scriptures to him attribute "....the Goblin tribes his beloved creations, made into his likeness..." to highlight one the particular nature of the religion.   Yithal Tropa has by and large been traditional in terms of practice, aside from minor tribal depiction. An equivalence can be made to Giant Nairukism(depiction of the origin myth and which characters assisted in the creation of Vestrata). Though in recent centuries, Goblin scholars and philosophers have posed questions of the traditional beliefs, causing three separate schools of devotion to form. These three are categorized as Ortodese, Heretissma, and Reformyst.

Ortodese

"He is the lord of battle, and giver of victory. We are his children, superior to all in battle. Power is praise to his might, and the riches you gather will feed his ever hungry maw."                                                                                                                  -Levrande Lief,  shaman of Yog
The oldest style of Yithal Tropa, and the most commonly recognized. Many who tell tales of the ancient goblin tribes describe the animalistic and barbaric rituals engaged in by his worshipers. Sacrifice, blood-letting, and fatal combat. Most of these practices are no longer commonplace, aside from animal sacrifice in more insular goblin communities. The state of Hobsrunne still acknowledges this as the primary religion of the country, as it accounts for 80% of the population.

Facts

  • Higlen, or Saints are also revered in Ortodese sects. These include(but are not limited to) Yog Yithrun, The Primogenitor, and Yog Infitil.
  • A yearly ceremony is conducted on the day of the Primogentor's (ancestor to all goblin tribes) supposed birthday. The ritual begins with the strongest warrior among the leaders emerging from a muddied pit, to fight 7 consecutive combats against each tribal leader. This is seen as a blessing from Yog himself, if the Chieftains succeed.

Heretissma

"So we are told from birth that we must kill and take with recklessness, and scream our superior ability to our foes. They say to us that it is the will of Yog Yithal, that we do it all to appease him. My question is 'Why?' For what god would wish us to live such a miserable existence, destroying and desecrating? Why would he not wish for us to be honorable, just, and reserved?"                                                                                          -Alfren of Yallensfir Academies Historic Department
A newer school of thought in  comparison to the old ways, The Heretissman question poses whether Yog himself condones the ancient ways of devotion. The argument that his vision for his people involves societal progress, technological innovation, and discipline in life, causes controversial debate. Only the larger, more modernized areas of Hobsrunne hold these congregations. The belief in fighting as worship still prevails, as do reverence towards the saints.

Facts

  • Heretissmin worshipers refuse to fight any who cannot defend themselves. Men who are disarmed, women, and children, are all forbidden to be attacked. To do so is to garner Yog's ire.
  • Study in a craft is highly emphasized, and this has led to many technological developments in Hobsian society, due to Heretissman craftsmen and Vabensmiths
  • Open worship of the Heretissmin faith is still looked down upon, and the government itself has turned a blind eye towards the situation.

Reformyst

"You cannot reap what you did not sow.  All that comes, eventually goes."                                                                                                                 -Reformyst mantra
The Reformyst sect is curious in regards to other Yog worship. These acolytes practice through the study of martial discipline to a degree that other goblins find extensive. The mastery and honing of a particular weapon and fighting style take years, where the trainee swears off all worldly pleasures and spends all time in their study. Though not looked favorably upon by the other groups, these followers have made themselves valuable allies in times of war.

Facts

  • The Reformyst's believe that Yog is "a moniker or ideal to obtain," and not an actual god. The Primogenitor is said to have been the first to achieve this title (A heretical notion in common goblin society)
  • Their congregations live on the outskirts of goblin territory, and spend a large portion of their time training, late into life. Younger members are responsible for the care and maintenance of the commune.
  • The number of different groups and "martial students" is unknown. The number of permutations and styles is said to be 17 or more.
