Scarberren

"I had a really nice conversation the other day."
"Oh, with who?"

"Funny story, it was with a suit of armor in a shop. I'd bumped into him unconsciously, and wouldn't have reacted normally."

"What made you this time?"
"All I heard was 'excuse you' when I thought there wasn't anyone else in the shop browsing. I turned around to apologize, but didn't see anyone. 'You dropped this,' he said, and reached down to hand me my coin pouch.

"oh, that was nice."

"I know. We talked for a bit, and are going out to a bar after his shift next weekend."
-Love Life in the City of Scarberren by Arthur Milles, Act 1
The city of Scarberren is a large place, and full of magic. Whether a side effect of the concentration of magic users/items, or due to some other unknown reason, the result is the same. A large city just breathing mystical energy.   Magic is a rare sight among the many provinces of Vestrata, but any who travel to the northeast Vestran capital. The AOA's massive spiral tower looms from the northwest district of the city. The streets ooze magical aura, flits of light and particle floating about. Shops full of enchanted wares or specializing in arcane business. Time, space, and matter themselves seem to sometimes bend under the magical pressure of the area, with roads stretching slightly, buildings disappearing with a blink, or hours jumping forward to back.

Prominent Sites In Scarberren

  1. Tower Of Artisan's: A prominent building throughout the whole city, and the pride of the Academy Of Artisans
  2. The Scarberren Baron's Estate: The home of the in office Baron of the Scarberren province of Vestra. The grounds themselves are expansive, and host a garden open to public use. Home to many exotic plants and animals, all cared for meticulously by the groundskeepers
  3. Civri Overlooking the Docks: a donated statue by one of the previous Barons, this work was completed almost 30 years ago. The statue features Civri, firing an arrow
  4. Long/Short Street: The path that cuts directly through Scarberren, and is officially known as Baron Street, due to it's end leading to the Baron's estate. Locals however have nicknamed it "Long/Short Street" due to the phenomenon of the road taking less than 5 minutes on occasion to get from one end to the other, when it reportedly should take 30 minutes. This is not the only street to be affected like this in the city, but it is the most apparent.
  5. Khemkavan Donated Statue: A statue donated by the Khemkavan ruler Ashoka The Rich, depicting a Heckatan Blade-Whirler. It sits across the street from the Civri statue in the docks, and in front of the entrance to Smaller Hekat
  6. Smaller Hekat: The city's cultural saturation of Heckatan culture (both Khemkavan and Amarronite) that boasts an exotic feel for most Vestran natives. Everything from restaurants, performers, and street vendors of Heckatan wares can be found here.
  7. Arcane Park: A curiosity in and of itself, Arcane Park was first a public garden for the residents to enjoy, before magical disruption caused the Artisans Academy to section non magical users off from it. After ensuring its safety again, the park was converted into an attraction of sorts for all to attend, focusing on the gimmick of "magic for the common man" to enjoy. Theatrical performances, tours, and ingenious magical manipulations have created a safe and exciting experience for all who attend. And at an affordable price.
  8. Scarberri Mountains: The namesake of the city, where the supposed founder, a Thritean explorer named Scarber the Sly, climbed the peak of the mountain and declared the land below to be where the largest Thritean city in the province would sit.
  9. Old Scarberren: the mostly dilapidated ruins of the original city from the Thritean occupation. A few of the older families still make their homes in the intricate villas of the past, upheld by meticulous repair (and significant magical intervention)
