Session 7 - Loose Ends and Grave Robbing

General Summary

20 Planting, 498TA

Denye, Ell, Jilken, (Erky)
After Janora and Sharwyn left, the rest of the party started looking around, both to loot the bodies and to ensure that there were no more enemies. Several magical items were found on the druids body and the frog provided some excellent meat and skin.

Returning to the Well you found Targg and most of the goblins that you had sent off. After confirming that Belak was dead, the hobgoblin sent several of his men up to retrieve weapons and prepared to lead a scouting party to make sure there weren’t any twig blights left lurking. Before leaving he asked you to pass on word to the Yurdrasyl that the goblins would vacate the upper level in two days time. He also warned you that after the compulsion wore off Balsag was quite angry, but took his things and left.

Deciding to leave that trouble for another day, the party went and spoke to Yurdrasyl. She was quite happy to hear the news and offered you the choice of a key or something from an altar nearby. Ell persuasively argued that the party should receive two boons for returning the dragon and settling things with the goblins. The elderly kobold agreed and gave the party the key, along with a spell scroll of knock.

Making your way out of the citadel, the party took a detour to the door with the magical dragon lock. The key fit and moving inside the party found a strange musical orb that made both Denye and Erky run. Deciding that they still wanted to see what was inside, the party went back, skirting that room and moving on into another hall.

Coming upon an ancient statue of a dragon the party was confronted with a riddle. Answering it correctly a stone door, flush with the wall sprang open revealing another hall, this one lined with statues. You were met by a rather rude quasit, who disappeared after he was hit.

At the far end of the statue hall was a 10ft wide pit of sharp spikes beyond which you could see another room glowing with a soft green light. After some trouble with doors, and one or two explosions, the party all found your way over to this ornate, but crumbling room. A single torch with an everlasting flame burned over a large marble sarcophagus.

The white marble was marred by six iron locks that had long ago rusted with age. Breaking those offl, the party opened the coffin and found the body of a twisted troll wearing ornate elven jewelry. As the party stared at it, the eyes opened and the troll jumped up ready to fight. Battle ensued, but the party was victorious. After slaying the monster, they pushed it into the pit and then roasted it to ash. Several more items, both magical and mundane were recovered from the marble coffin,

Bloody and exhausted, the party returned to the surface and found your campsite. Walking up, you quickly noticed that there was a husk of a horse on the ground adn the others were missing. You also found that Janora’s bedroll and packs were gone. Surmising that they had already started back to Oakhurst, the party elected to spend the night here and follow in the morning.

Erky asked if he could travel with the party up to Oakhurst, his destination before being waylaid by the goblins. Seems he and Dem Cackle grew up together in Gnormandy. The party readily agreed and Erky cooked them all some delicious frog steaks in thanks. Setting watches, the party fell into their bedrolls and the night passed quietly.

Janora, (Sharwyn)
Stopping only to tell Targg that the Outcast was dead, the two made short work out of the egress from the citadel. Upon reaching the top you found your campside. Three of the horses were missing, the fourth a withered husk, victim of twig blights. Leaving Sharwyn sitting on a log, where she alternated crying and staring off into space, Janora packed up their things and got ready to walk back to Oakhurst.

Leading the unresisting girl back down the trail to the main road. At the Finger they found the remains of another horse. At the sight of it Sharwyn started sobbing again. Janora just let out a breath, took the girl by the elbow and led her back onto the road and moving north.

After about 4 hours of travel, the sun was almost set and Janora started looking for a place to camp for the night. Eventually they settled on a tall evergreen with drooping branches, providing both shelter and screen. Ushering the girl inside, Janora made a sketchy camp; rolling out the bedroll for Sharwyn and then making the tiniest of fires to brew tea. Once that was accomplished they put out the fire and broke out some trail rations and attempted to get Sharwyn to eat. She refused the food, but took the tea willingly.

Soon after, the tea had the desired effect and the human was fast asleep. Smiling to themselves, Janora settled down into a half-doze, relying on the dogstaff laying across their knees to alert them to danger. The night passes quietly, although Sharwyn’s sleep is restless.
