Hondaria

The furthest west country in Vestara, Hondaria is a vassal of Thuon Khor and a part of its empire.   Hondaria is the largest of the three nations west of the Hujarin Mountains. It once encompassed the entirety of the land between the mountains to the western coast, however during the Thuon Khor expansion wars, the empire supported the independence of the two other nations, Kulgar and Jidal-Yuun, which seperated from Hondaria, became the protectorates of Thuon Khor, then joined in the war against Hondaria. While still three times the size of Kulgar and Jidal-Yuun combined, Hondaria was left too fragmented to continue its struggle against the imperialists.   Hondaria in the present spans from Lake Jabroska in the east to the western coast, as well as from the tundra in the north to the southern coast. Its previous borders contested with Thuon Khor in the southeast, before Jidal-Yuun declared its independence and claimed those lands. While Hondaria lost about a quarter of its land when its smaller neighbors rebelled, it still remains the largest country area-wise on Seraht.   Hondaria is predominately steppes, with much of that land used for farming. Due to the lack of trees, Hondaria has never had much of a naval force, instead focusing on land transport and armies. Over the past few centuries since it became a vassal of Thuon Khor, it has been more common for Honadarians to join the Thuonin navy. However, it is seen as more honorable by Hondarian tradition to join the army than to sail on the seas.   Hondaria, in its prime, was known for its cavalry. Although unmatched by the Thuonin horsemen, the Hondarian cavalry was numerous and brutal. It was also a common position to be a footsoldier, and although they were not as well trained as the Hondarian horsemen, they were vital for taking and holding land. In the years after their conquest, the Hondarian cavalry tradition was mostly lost, as aspiring horsemen were sent to Thuon Khor to take part in their cavalry. Although in some areas, particularly in smaller towns, pockets of men are trained in the traditional Hondarian footsoldier and cavalry ways, hoping to one day at worst revive the practice and at best, free themselves from Thuonin rule.   Hondaria is based on Mongolia and the hordes post-Genghis Khan. Or the decline of the mongols.
