Gothul

The central and largest nation of mainland Farandis, Gothul has a past that is full of strife and chaos.
Gothul began thousands of years ago as a loose conflagration of a few dozen city-states that all identified as Goth. These settlements warred, traded, and influenced one another each hoping to further themselves against their neighbors. This general situation persisted through the early ages until a new institution from the northern lands changed the history of Gothul permanently.
In Umbria the Bluestone University was created, and while it was largely unnoticed throughout much of Gothul, a young man left Gothul for the academy and returned two decades later a changed man. However, this change was not for the betterment of the Goths. While little is known now of who he was due to the purge of information across Farandis, what is known was that he began slaughtering the people from his home with dark magics and raising them from the dead as his personal army. He continued on this path of destruction across Gothul until the mages of Umbria stepped in and banished him from the Material Plane. It took centuries for people to return to the great cities that were wiped out.
Eventually, Gothul became a state, with the rulers of the individual city-states acting as voting representatives of the government. This government challenged Corona numerous times on the field of battle starting through several wars, in turn Corona attempted, unsuccessfully to bring them to heel by declaring their own wars during times of peace. During this 1200 year time frame Umbria and Eldrathia stepped in to bring the two nations to peace.
As of 47 years ago, Gothul was still a state made of numerous independent states until an Orcish Goth military commander named Heral began conquering the Goths in the name of unification. She spread swiftly across the many fragmented city-states until finally all of Gothul was left under a single banner. Heral made her birthplace Nuvalen the capital of her new nation, and since her conquests the Goths have known peace. Her son Senair now rules in her stead.
