Attika
The ancient first city and capital of Eldrathia, Attika is the father of all civilization.
Attika was created over five thousand years when a few human tribes banded together to share defense and resources. After a very short time other peoples began joining the growing settlement and within a generation it was growing into a city. However, as few people spoke the same language it became necessary for a change as the people relied more and more on each other to survive. As such, the language of the humans was freely taught to all who would learn it. This language took off and soon every inhabitant of Attika spoke it. It did not take long for the language to travel across Farandis along the trade routes and radiate to every individual therein. As such, the language took on the name of Common.
Attika was also the founding place of government. Quickly finding itself needing a way to deal with day-to-day issues as well as larger issues such as security, a group of individuals was elected across by the inhabitant of Attika, and thus the first direct democracy was formed. This government lasted for thousands of years until the Descrying War with Seraht. When it became clear Farandis was not winning the war and thus support for the war effort drastically fell, a council member saw an opportunity.
Long rallying against the war, a man named Daevet suddenly found himself in the good graces of the general public. The rest of the council supported their allies and were despised by the public. Daevet, being a very wealthy man, hired a mercenary force from Skjorvic who invaded Attika with Daevet at the helm, and without a single blow Daevet seized all power from the council, declaring himself the dictator of Eldrathia. It was the only time Attika has ever been invaded and held by a force.
Attika is home now to a great number of universities and is home to a great military force. The Daevet sits in the place where the council once met, but the building has been extensively renovated into a great palace. Poverty is extremely limited in Attika and largely it is considered a safe and prosperous city.
