Barking Apes
Havla Maymum are aggressive and assertive primates found lurking within the Golgelen Jungle, the Barking Ape is among the most common forms of wildlife found within the jungle. Due to the Golgelen's hostile nature, their troops are very territorial compared to most apes.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Barking Apes are black-furred primates with notably long arms that leave the knuckles dragging upon the ground whenever they walk upright. Their bulky frame is often hunched, leaving them to walk on all fours by preference, but they are capable of walking on two feet.
Their fur is thick, shaggy, and covers their face to the point that their mouths are often covered. Their eyes are bright and glow within the dark; an adaptation that both serves as a warning to predators and an identifying mark to other primates. The reason it serves as a warning is simple; despite their relatively small size, their strength in numbers, when paired with their ferocity, easily allows them to fell beasts far larger than them.
Ecology and Habitats
Having adapted to the unique ecosystem of the Golgelen Jungle, this species of apes is exclusively found within that jungle. During the morning, they spend their time up at the top of the harika tree canopy, where they scrounge for nuts and unique leaves that are exclusive to there.
During the night, they move as a troop in the jungle below, where they migrate and hunt for prey.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Entirely omnivorous creatures, the barking ape prefers to feed on whatever's easier for it to get its hands on. They're relatively lazy creatures despite their territorial nature, and will not go out of their way to hunt or seek out living prey outside of night time wandering -- and even then, they vastly prefer scavenging or bullying predators out of their own catches in order to catch an easy meal.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
Generally speaking, the Barking Ape is often ignored and left alone due to the massive inconvenience that comes with hunting them. It's safest to hunt the creatures in the morning, but this is typically when their troop is in the high canopies of the forest, leaving them difficult to spot, find, or safely even reach.
However, at night, it's the easiest to spot one; though this leaves hunters forced to deal with the entire troop; a dangerous prospect.
Despite that, ape brains make for a unique delicacy, and is often served as a bizarre street food to tourists.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Barking apes get their namesake for their habit of loudly whooping and howling whenever their troop continues through the woods. This loud, raucous behavior often leaves other creatures steering clear of their path, but more importantly; apes possess a particularly keen sense of hearing that allows them to echolocate prey or moving targets.
Hearing one of them more than likely means that they are wholly aware of your own position.
