Villish Longhouse

"A Villish's first thoughts should be of family. The second, of home.
A Longhouse is a specially built home designed to house around 8~20 people; though large, they're a very common part of Villish society due to both providing a method to stick together and interact with one's family, no matter how distant.

Purpose / Function

Villish Longhouses are, quite simply, designed to house several people at once. They serve as a home to not just the immediate family, but also cousins or distant relatives as well. Every member within the Longhouse contributes to the welfare of the family, allowing everyone to work together to live beneath a roof as a small community.   Not only are these lodges designed to provide homes to the Villish People, but they are also designed to grant a sense of togetherness. Family is one of the most important things in Villish culture.

Design

Villish Longhouses are generally designed in a very simple way; the center of each long house serves as an enormous dining hall for the family to get together, and often has a larder and kitchen either kept within the same room or connected close through a door. The remaining rooms are dedicated to serving as small sleeping areas; a Villish Room, while private, is generally very small, needing only a bed and desk to keep them satisfied. The doors typically lead directly into the dining hall.

Architecture

Villish Longhouses are built of wood and stone. They generally have a sloped design and, while they remain only one story high, they're exceptionally long and oval shaped, hence their name. Large lodges also sometimes have deep basements to help provide more room for members of the clan's lodge. The buildings are carefully crafted of timber, and are sometimes described as an upturned sea vessel due to their shape.

History

Villish Longhouses were primarily made out of necessity; before the land of Tregaron was united under three kingdoms, the Villish were nearly just as divided as the rest of the feudal societies found scattered across the continent. Villish communities, though close, found themselves even more close alongside their friends and family, and thus constructed these large homes with the sole intent of keeping close to one's loved ones.   Villish Longhouses haven't really changed much; the only exception to this fact is that the rooftops are no longer a messy thatch top that provided minimal protection against the rain.
