Werelan
Werelan is a ghostly blacksmith who inhabits a place known as Werelan's Anvil, a small plateau in the foothills of the Heldrian mountains, just outside Eord's Forest. Here, an unusual rock formation forms an anvil-like shape, lending the place its name.
Feared and respected in equal measure by the Men of Verrin, Werelan is perhaps best known for his ability to forge weapons of incredible quality and power. Legend has it that if you leave a blunt, broken or otherwise non-functional weapon on Werelan's Anvil overnight, along with a coin or two of gold or silver, when you return in the morning the weapon will be repaired, and sometimes even improved. Should your payment not be sufficient for Werelan, however, the weapon will be enchanted with dark magics that will surely bring death and misfortune to the wielder.
The same applies to horses: hitch your horse to the Anvil and leave payment, and by morn it will be shod with gleaming iron. If you are stingy in payment, then you'll return to find your horse writhing in pain, with all four of its legs brutally rent in two.
Werelan himself is rarely seen, but always his presence is felt at the Anvil. Those who claim to have seen him give varying accounts of his appearance. At night, the orange glow of a furnace can be seen at the Anvil from afar, accompanied by the grievous pounding of Werelan's mighty hammer. Upon approaching, however, the glow disappears and the hammer falls silent, the only reminder of your bargain with Werelan is the fact that the coins you left for him are missing, as they have been added to his otherworldly hoard.
