Tysabian

Tysabian, sometimes called Tysabian the Grim, is a semi-legendary Elf hero from the Third Age, who played a pivotal role in leading Verrin's defence against the maurauding Orcish hordes. Originally the king of the city-state of Vanitasir, he became the de facto leader of all Elves and held significant authority over all the free peoples of Verrin.   Revered particularly amongst Elves, Tysabian led a huge army comprised of Elves, Dwarves and Giants in a desperate attempt to drive the Orcs back through Thengalir's Gap. At some point, he is known to have become an avatar of the creator god Thengalir himself. His skill with both sword and magic were unparalleled, perhaps as a result of this.   Tysabian's weapon, a finely forged Elven blade called Talon, has changed hands countless times throughout the centuries. The sword grants its wielder incredible power and supernatural speed, but also plagues the unfortunate soul with visions and a sense of impending doom. None who wield Talon do so for long.   Tysabian's ultimate fate is unknown. There is no account of any note after the final battle against the Orcs, nor is there any known record of his death in battle. As Elves are immortal, its entirely possible that he still lives... Whether with his Elven kin on their secluded isle or hidden in the wilderness, there is no way to know for sure. The fact that his sword left his possession leads many to the conclusion that he is indeed dead, but this is of course uncertain.   According to some legends, Tysabian is a member, or perhaps even the leader of The Wild Hunt. The reason for this varies depending on who you ask, but a common explanation posits that, using his powers as the avatar of Thengalir the creator, Tysabian compelled the Woodwatchers to fight against the Orcs during their invasion of the South. The Woodwatchers, who had been gifted free will by their creator Hruntir, were outraged at this abuse of their power. In their fury they seized Tysabian, and with Hruntir's power, cast him down from godhood. Some Woodwatchers, twisted by their desire for vengeance and shame about being forced to fight, became the terrifying spectres who now ride in the Wild Hunt. Now they had seen battle, their peaceful nature gave way to a fierce and unforgiving cruelty, and they were cast out by their uncorrupted brethren. Tysabian, helpless, was the first victim of these baleful spirits. He too was twisted into a ghostly rider, who now rides at the forefront of the infernal cavalcade, its ranks ever swelling with the souls of the damned. In many variations of this story, Tysabian searches for his lost blade, Talon.
