Stair

Stair , known in Kerask as Staadraal, is a city in Verrin's harsh northern tundra, one of the oldest cities still inhabited in Verrin. It was founded by Giants in the First or perhaps Second age of their calendar.   Stair is named as such because of its resemblance to a staircase. Built into the side of a mountain, the city consists of many distinct layers or 'stairs'. The lower levels consist of dwellings and industry, and the higher levels contain Lords' halls and more illustrious houses for the rich and powerful. The very highest level is the Temple of Thengalir, a great cathedral dedicated to the creator god of the Alwealda.   During the Orcish invasion, the city was sacked and inhabited by Orcs for around seven years until they were driven out by Tysabian's forces which included Elves, Giants and Dwarves. The aftermath of the battle saw much of the city destroyed. In thanks for Tysabian's great victory, the Giants built the Temple of Thengalir to honour the avatar of the creator god.
