Realm of Asetnys

The Realm of Asetnys, often called the Free Realm or, disparagingly, the Kingdom of Vagabonds, is a relatively small nation that occupies part of central Verrin. It is famed for its somewhat lawless nature, making it the ideal destination for smugglers, bandits and other lowlifes. It is also perhaps the most diverse nation in Verrin, playing host to members of every race from every corner of Verrin, many of whom seek to escape oppression or punishment in their native land. Many religious dissidents, Lycanthropes and other unfortunates take refuge in Asetnys.
The land of Asetnys and large parts of it are claimed by various neighboring states and kingdoms, including the Kingdom of Fyfeldor. However, most do not press their claims as they recognise the difficulty of conquering a land filled with hedge wizards, criminal overlords, werewolves and other hardened fighters.
Despite its reputation, Asetnys does have a government albeit a very loose and ineffectual one. Each town or city is ruled by an individual. The titles and styles taken by these individuals varies from town to town, as most choose to take a title familiar to their culture. For example, the city of Peveral, ruled by a Man of the Kingdom of Fyfeldor, uses the title of Thegn for its ruler. The town of Anchorel, ruled by a Giant of Ascenhal, uses the title Kerendir.
These disparate rulers all meet once a year to discuss the state of affairs in their own lands. They have a considerable degree of authority and independence, and the only time they really cooperate is when the Realm itself is threatened.
