Mirrormount Dominion

The Mirrormount Dominion, sometimes called the Thurún Empire or the Empire of Giants is the largest nation of Giants in Verrin, and arguably the most powerful. Ruled by a High King-Emperor, or Kerendir, the Dominion's lands stretch across northern and central Verrin.

History

The Dominion was founded in the 5th age, by the famed Giant king Bacchún. By cunning and strength of arms he united a number of Giant kingdoms, eventually amassing enough troops and wealth that no others could stand against him. He was driven by a desire to see Giants live in peace with one another and to end the fractitious state of affairs that had overcome the Giant realms in recent years.
Once united, a level of prosperity never before seen was achieved. Bacchún was regarded as a hero and the cultural hegemony of the Giant race was cemented.
That was about to change, however, as the Men of Verrin landed in the East. Suspicious and cautious but with good intentions, Bacchún offered friendship and trade with the newcomers. However, he recieved word that Giants were being displaced by the humans' rapid expansion. He had no choice but to offer an ultimatum. The warm relations between Man and Giant could only continue if their expansion stopped.
The old and infirm Bacchún died before his words could be heeded, and his son Vathlauss took the throne of Mirrormount. Taking advantage of the upheval caused by the Kerendir's death, several oppurtunistic Giant kingdoms rebelled against the Dominion and restored their independence. Regardless, Vathlauss pursued war against the Humans, igniting a conflict known as the War of Shattered Shields.
