Kynestol
The city of Kynestol is traditionally regarded as the oldest human city in Verrin, having been founded by Aethelwulf when he first led the Men of Verrin across the ocean. It has always served as the capital of the Kingdom of Fyfeldor since its earliest days.
Throughout the centuries, many have sought the city's fall, but due to the stubborn hearts of the Fyfeldorian populace, none have been successful. The king of the Mirrormount Dominion, Vathlauss, once laid siege to Kynestol and came very close to taking it but the timely intervention of the minor human nations of Galdor, Galere, Thunor and Raine meant his plans were thwarted.
Government
As the seat of the King of the Kingdom of Fyfeldor, Kynestol has no governor as other cities do. The King or Queen takes personal ownership of the city, and in their absence, a council of trusted local nobles rule the city.
Defences
The city is one of the few human cities to feature a stone wall, which was constructed by the greatest architects and masons among the Dwarves during the reign of Aethelstan the Bloody. It was completed just in time, as the tensions between Men and Giants skyrocketed during that period.
The city's guard consists of a professional standing army in service of the King, as well as many volunteers who take up arms as bailiffs and sheriffs.
Industry & Trade
Kynestol is home to a thriving fishing industry and plays host to the famous migratory fisher-women known as 'Sea Wives', who follow the migrations of the fish up and down Verrin's eastern coast. Kynestol is roughly halfway along their route, meaning they stay there for around a month in mid summer.
Its coastal location also makes Kynestol an important trade port, perhaps more important than any other in Verrin. Such wealth flows into the city that its often joked that the streets should be paved with gold.
