Hargead Ýrnen

The Hargead Ýrnen (singular: Hargead Ýrna) are a collection of ancient swords of unknown origin. The iridescent white blades are said to be carved from the fallen antlers of Woodwatchers which are naturally shed each midwinter.   The term 'Hargead Ýrna' comes from an unknown language, presumed dead in ages long past. Tradition holds that it means 'blade of creation' or sometimes, more forebodingly, 'blade of creation's undoing'. They are sometimes called the Swords of Creation or the White Blades of Quenta Azdún.   A Hargead Ýrna is not to be wielded lightly- it grants the bearer knowledge of the divine and the very fabric of existence that no mortal should ever possess. If one can withstand the assault upon one's sanity, the blades make their wielders extremely adept in combat due to a combination of foresight and incredible magical powers that surpass even The Gift. Around one of the White Blades, reality itself begins to warp and bend in unusual ways. The Universal Argument usually means that it takes great willpower and devotion to bend the world to one's will. When a Hargead Ýrna is present, the universe simply stops fighting back.   When a god takes an avatar upon the mortal plane, they often seek out a Hargead Ýrna- they are perhaps the only ones who are able to wield these weapons safely for any prolonged period of time.

Significance

The pure white colour of these swords is instantly recognisable. Legends of the Hargead Ýrnen, their makers and their various wielders are widespread across all Verrin's disparate cultures. According to some doomsaying Widlasteri, the fate of the blades is inextricably linked to the end of the world. They say five pale riders will tear the sky asunder, and each wielding a Hargead Ýrna, will destroy all Thengalir's prized creation to make way for the next cycle of death and rebirth as foretold in the Aendún Gesceadneth.
Rarity
Five Hargead Ýrnen are known to exist, although three of the five are unaccounted for. One blade is deep in the vaults of the Dwarven hold of Krimbol-Miond, while the other is kept under the watchful protection of the Order of Oridain.   Those who stumble across a Woodwatcher's fallen antler have often tried to forge their own blade from it, but all attempts have been met with varying degrees of failure. The Hargead Ýrnen are utterly unique and no known craft has been able to replicate them. No smith or carver among Men, Elves, Dwarves, Giants or Orcs have ever come close.
