Feón

The Feón, or Wolf-coats as they are informally called, are a secretive group of Men of Verrin who rejected so called ‘civilised’ life and chose instead to live a in a nomadic state of near constant travel. They speak a unique dialect of the common tongue, which is only partly mutually intelligible. Despite sometimes being associated with the Northmen due to their similar lifestyle, they are in no way related.   The Feón live close to nature, and feel that it’s unnatural to wear woven fabrics. As such, they only wear the pelts of slain animals, or occasionally chain mail armour. This custom gave rise to their nickname: Wolf-coats.   The dark, sacrifice-based religion of the Feón is kept secret from outsiders, although many speculate that they revere their own unique god, outside The Alwealda. Some have even suggested that they are in some way allied with the ghostly Wudugast.   Regarded with suspicion by other Men, the Feón nonetheless prove invaluable as mercenaries. Among Giants, they are known as ‘Feral ones’.   Anyone is free to join the Feón, however an oath must be sworn in blood. To break one's oath is to forfeit one's life. Those who choose to join are perpetually lower in status than the those who were born into the tribe.

Assets

On account of their nomadic lifestyle, the Feón have little in the way of material wealth. Their most prized and valuable possessions are their weapons, which are often richly decorated with gold, silver and gemstones.   The Feón have an unusually high rate of Lycanthropy, due to their deliberate 'adoption' of lycanthropes from among other human populations. They are experts at restraining werewolves, and are considered the masters of learning to control ones' bestial form. Many recipes, concoctions and brews are utilised by the Feón to induce calmness in werewolves, and after repeated exposure, some lycanthropes gain full control and can switch between forms at will. Such individuals are revered in their society and are devastating in battle.

Military

The Feón are a renowned fighting force, and frequently sell their services as mercenaries. Mostly wielding swords, spears and long falxes, they are a fast and mobile force that can outmanoeuvre almost any non-cavalry foe. Shields are rare among the Feón, but not unheard of.   They are also expert bowmen, able to hit targets with extreme accuracy due to their extensive hunting expertise.

Technological Level

In most areas of knowledge, the Feón have regressed to a simple hunter-gatherer lifestyle.   They live in tents made from pelts, designed to be put up and taken down very quickly. They make use of wagons and carts, and have rudimentary carpentry skills to maintain them. Oddly, they smithing and metalworking skills of the Feón are of a good standard, and they forge and maintain their own armour and weapons. However, they still rely heavily on scavenging, raiding and outright theft to keep up their weapon stocks.
