Boiling Sky

Boiling Sky is an expanse of air within Arial (a sky-high pocket dimension) that constantly has hot air rising from unknown depths.

Location

It is located in Arial, a dimensional pocket home to the avians. It is a long distance from the Skygate used to access the dimension and any of the floating islands, making it particularly hard for non-fliers to reach. 

Environment

Boiling Sky is open sky in every direction, just like the rest of Arial. For an unknown reason, there are no floating islands in Boiling Sky, despite their prevalence nearly everywhere else in the pocket dimension. Any artificial islands don't stay afloat. The only form of land that can be found in Boiling Sky are large hovercraft.
The entirety of Boiling Sky airspace is hot, but how hot varies in patches. Most areas can be likened to tropical or desert-like, but in places there are columns of air that are at boiling point.

Perils

While the hot air of Boiling Sky is it's main attraction, it does make it very dangerous. It can be very uncomfortable or even deadly to be exposed to the hot air for too long, depending on the avian. Snow avians are especially vulnerable, overheating quickly in their snuggly feathers.
For those that can withstand the heat, flying through Boiling Sky is a unique skill. The permanent updraft messes with normal flying styles, so most avains use weights as a counterbalance. That brings its own risks, since weights can snag or be miscalculated.
Boiling Sky is also home to the vatrotian, a curious species that lives off the hot air, absorbing energy through their scales. They're harmless, but curious and known for crashing into flying avians and getting tangled in weights and wings.

Rewards

The unique environment of Boiling Sky is the only one where cloudcrystals can form. These unique, glittering crystals are fantastic conductors and can safely store large amounts of energy.
Boiling Sky is also the place where skilled fliers go to become masters. If it's your cup of tea, it's also the place to go for isolation and the hermit lifestyle.
