Evrener Lorvandren

"The plague may be gone, but another remains yet. The tyrant butchers our people still. Each new morn, new corpses adorn the frozen lands of our nation. The fight must be finished. Erik must fall. He may take our lives, but he will never take our birthrights!"   "Evrener, giving a speech to a number of Frostblades
Baralis is perhaps one of the most prosperous nations of mankind, in some places rivalling even the Eldan Imperium. It's citizens enjoy a pleasant life, largely free from the dangers of poverty, hunger, illiteracy and tyranny. The last point would have been true, had it not been for the revelation of King Erik Solberg's true form. A corruption scandal, a movemhttps://www.worldanvil.com/world/person/1c72bf42-c378-41c0-a504-452c38a2b989/edit#ent and a few words from his trusted friend were all that was required to push him beyond. Unleashing carnage upon the innocent protestors, Erik vowed to eradicate all those that opposed him in his bid to be seen as a great hero   The one person who would fight back the most was his trusted friend, Evrener Lorvandren. Born during the great plague of Baralis, Evrener was orphaned at a young age. Whilst A veteran warrior in the Baralian Army, Evrener had achieved numerous exploits that saw his meteoric rise from a plague orphan to a great hero. It was him who had single handedly held off hundreds of fiends whilst overseeing the evacuation of an entire cities civilians in the Dresharian civil war. A few days later, he would murder their leadership in their own lair, throwing them into confusion and leading to the swift victory of the Dresharians over the Serpent's cult. Him staying behind and overseeing the reconstruction efforts in the country were testament to his care for the people, despite them being from a foreign land   His victories would plant the first seeds of jealousy in Erik's mind. All it took was a push from an unknown force, and Solberg unleashed hell on the inhabitants of Baralis. Abandoned by the nascent rebellion for his previous loyalty to the King, Evrener narrowly escaped the executioner's axe due to the timely action of a faction of the rebels who knew how much he cared for the people. Escaping into the mountains, Evrener swore that he would mount Erik's head on a pike.   Ever since then, Evrener has been a key figure in the Frostblade rebellion, leading it for the overwhelming majority of its existence. His exceptional heroism, leadership skills and valiancy has led to him being a shining beacon of hope for the Frostblade Rebellion. Though he has been defeated more than once, Evrener continues to lead his men with the same passion. As the Frostblade rebellion nears its decadal anniversary, Evrener has plans to overthrow the King once and for all, whilst Erik and his equally sadistic son conspire with forces dark and beyond their comprehension. It will be a battle not just for Baralis, but will herald the beginning of the end. The return of a Dark God

Personal history

Plagueborn

"Love... You were born of the plague weren't you?"   "Wouldn't say that . But yes, i was born while the plague still raged."   Linnara looked away for a bit, before turning back to Evrener   "Perhaps thats what tempered your heart. For being the hero you are. For saving others by your blade"   A conversation between Evrener and his lover, Linnara
In the summer of 9962, the great plague of Baralis was at it's peak. Thousands were dying every day, with there not being enough space to bury the dead. Soon, the people turned to cremation, and the skies were clouded with the dark smoke of funeral pyres, for the first time in Baralian history   Yet, in the midst of it all, a new life was born. In the darkest of days, Evrener Lorvandren came to this world. Born to a soldier and his diplomat wife, Evrener was in a much better position than others, many of whom had lost their wages to the maladies of the plague. His family was relatively affluent as well, sparing him from the worst of the experiences. At least, until they all fell victim to the plague

An Orphan of the Plague

"Ev, come here. Play with us" A voice came from his left   Evrener paid no attention to it. He had been tricked before, having to witness an endless tirade of curses and beatings He was surprised that there weren't any scars on his body still   "Ev, we mean it" Evrener felt a hand on his shoulders. He looked at the source. It was Nils. One of the few friends he had in this hellhole"   An experience of Evrener in his life at the orphanage
During the last years of the epidemic, nearly all of Evrener's family fell prey to the plague. Beginning with his mother, the plague killed almost everyone of his family, crippling what few survivors there were. With little to nothing left, Evrener was admitted to an orphanage, where he would spend the next decade under extremely harsh conditions   At the Orphanage, Evrener was often shunned. He was one of the "Plagueborn", children born during the plague and thought to be carriers of the disease. Given only the bare essentials to survive, each day was a hell for him. The regular bullying by almost everyone else would leave long lasting scars on the young boy's mind.   But he was not one to back down. Having developed a natural aptitude for perseverance, Evrener worked hard. He developed a passion for reading, spending much time in libraries and learning about various topics. His studying made him meritorious, and this attracted the attention of a certain person

A watchful eye

"Your majesty, i must say that this child is out of ordinary.
At the break of his teenhood, Evrener had achieved his most significant victory yet. Not only he had passed a national exam with flying colours, he had also been praised due to his efforts to help out plagueborn children, who were still ostracized and discriminated against even after it being illegal to do so. It was a coincidence however, that would result in his life changing completely   During a visit to the orphanage in which Evrener had studied, Erik interacted with the students, wanting to hear anything they wanted to say and make sure that life was better for them. Amongst those students was Evrener. The boy's striking red hair and birthmark which identified him as a plagueborn immediately caught the attention of the king. He talked with him, listening to all he said. Having a chance to finally let out his emotions, Evrener told Erik of the story of his life. So moved was the king that he decided to award Evrener a scholarship in one of the most prestigious schools of Baralis, and ensure that the boy and others like him were taken care of.   It was the first time that Evrener cried tears of happiness. Erik was already known to be a gentle and able ruler, but he did not expect his life to be personally changed by him. Still taking in the words of the king, he slowly thanked him. A new life waited in front of him, one brighter than the one he was leaving behind

The making of a warrior

“Steady now lad. You’ll murder me if you swing that fast”   Evrener paid little heed to his teachers words, and struck with a force that pried the sword from his hand. He looked on in abject horror, before apologising”   “You know, scrap that. Hit as hard as you can. You’ll make a fine soldier”   Evrener, training at the Baralian military academy
Over the next few years, Evrener had a much better path in life. He studied at the most prestigious schools of the kingdom, and excelled in his studies. Despite having significant mental trauma from his time in the orphanage, Evreners natural aptitude of perseverance allowed him to overcome the hurdles. He would frequently spend whole nights awake, studying everything to the minutest detail. His mind learnt in an unorthodox but extremely efficient way, thereby allowing him to constantly come up with new ideas that impressed his superiors   After passing out from college with flying colours, Evrener was torn on what to do. At one hand, he had studied quite a bit about economics and statecraft, aiming to make the lives of others easier. On the other hand, he also had developed an interest in martial affairs, having frequently interacted with military officials through his teenhood. The king himself too had recommended this path, seeing much potential for the young man in the martial realm. Eventually, he would agree. This was the beginning of his fame

War across the frontiers

"Whatever happens... Dresharia must not fall to these bastards. I will give every drop of blood in my body for that if need be"   Evrener, during the Dresharian civil war
After joining the Baralian military, Evrener quickly found himself on an international mission, thanks to the good number of contacts he had. He wanted to gain some experience in the actual battlefield, while also increasing his fame for his future ambitions. Whilst getting familiarised with the people of his contingent, he came across a young soldier, who was a year or two below him in age. It didn't take long for a relationship to form between them on the grapevine. It would soon prove helpful to him, for he would save his life many times over the next two decades   At the end of the mission, Evrener did not get as much appreciation as he had desired for but his fame was high nonetheless. A string of international deployments followed, which kept skyrocketing his fame. Yet, the high watermark of his career was yet to come. It was in the lands of Dresharia that Evrener would make his name worldwide   Dresharia was a nation embroiled in war against itself. A sinister movement had rose up, aiming to overthrow the government and introduce a reign of a god. The cult soon gained strength, and took over many parts of Dresharia. Evrener once again found himself on a peacekeeping mission. His particular duty was to guard a sensitive town located on the reaches of a lake. Little did he know that it would see his fame hit a new high   Under the cover of darkness, the Dresharian cultists launched their attack, taking the garrison completely by surprise. It wasn't soon before the evacuations begun, but the cultists were a raging tide of heavily armed warriors, supplemented by abhorrent beasts that crushed all opposition ahead of them.   Evrener was in charge of the evacuation process. His numbers dwindling with every moment, he decided to face the threat from the forefront, bidding the others to evacuate quickly. In the ensuing storm his greatsword felled hundreds, being stained with layer upon layer of cultist and bestial blood. He unleashed his magical prowess, fighting like the wildest beasts. In the ensuing action, he sustained many wounds. Every stab took a sliver of life from him, growing in intensity as exhaustion washed over him. But there were innocent lives to be saved. He kept fighting on, till the last ferry left the docks. But it was too late. He fell into the lake, the water being coloured a bright red from the blood of his wounds. It was the last thing he saw before his senses went black   Having fallen into the lakes waters, Evrener washed up on the shores, having been carried by the waves to this part. He should have been dead, his body being marred with enough cuts to make him look like a messily cooked piece of beef. Yet, he persevered on. He kept walking, until he was found by a Dresharian scouting team and tended to, restoring him to battle shape somewhat. They left off to join the rest of their forces, until a large formation of cultists ambushed them. The majority of his group were killed, but Evrener was captured. The cultists bound him, and took him to a prisoner camp which was about to be visited by their leadership in a few weeks. This presented a clear chance for Evrener, and he made a plan to end the rebellion once and for all   Having applied a secret trick involving an acidic spell, Evrener's bindings soon began to corrode. Fortune smiled on him, and his bindings were released at the right moment. At the prisoner camp, he met up with many other people and planned an uprising, intending to cause chaos and help the Dresharian forces capture the region and most importantly, kill their leadership   The uprising was a roaring success. Evreners forces overran the defences, butchering the cultist leadership and delivering a significant blow to their war efforts. Over the next few days, they spread over the surrounding region, linking up with the Dresharian forces and launching an offensive that’s ruptured the heart of the cultist army. It wasn’t long before victory was achieved. Dresharia was safe once more, but even then Evrener and his contingent remained, hoping to rebuild the war torn nation to an extent before leaving. Before he left, the Dresharians erected a statue of him in their capital despite his protests. To this day, the statue of Evrener stands tall and proud, despite his branding as a traitor and criminal by his own nation

Education

By Virtue of his hardwork, Evrener had the chance to study in Baralis' topmost universities, besides the Military Academy he had studied in. Evrener has a masters degree in Political Economics from the University of Vendholm, , which reflected his desire to lead the people one day. Asides from that, he also has a masters in Military Strategy and Combat Magic from the Baralian Officers Academy.

Another great article Elias. With Evrener washing down the river I confess it made me think of Aragorn haha.   Only a few things to note - there are a few full-stops missing at the ends of final sentences in some paragraphs, and the rogue link that has randomly appeared in the first paragraph, and some of the quote boxes might need some fiddling with too (for example using the | to separate the author of the quote from the quote itself) but these are just formatting/grammar issues.   The story of Evrener's life reads well but the mention of magic was a little unexpected since previously nothing had been mentioned of his learning or being able to use magic - unless I missed it!   But it's nicely done. I would like to have seen more in the sidebar but I know they are tricky to fill! But great work as always. :)
