Khepri (Hiveless)

The Khepri are known to most humanoids within Nemthraz as a danger to be either avoided or destroyed. They are alien beings, operating under a shared consciousness and most often hostile or uncaring toward all but their own hive-mates. Their hive cities are run with a ruthless efficiency and ruled by fearsome queens. Any that do not conform to the hive's society, mentally or physically, are destroyed or driven out. Some khepri drones do not fit seamlessly into the well-tuned social mechanics of the hive. They resist the orders of the queen and thoughts of the hive mind. others are physicaly unsutible to the tasks for which they were bred. Whatever the reason, they do not conform, and nonconformity is not abided in khepri society. Renegades who are not killed are driven out or flee. Known as the hiveless, these outcasts attempt to thrive in a world where they are feared and reviled, making their way as best they can. Ability Scores: Choose one of:

Speed: 30 ft. Creature Type. Humanoid. Size. Small Bread for purpose: Despite no longer being part of your hive, you were originally bread to serve a role within it. Choose one of the following traits at 1st level. You may choose a second trait at level 5.

Wings: You gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed. You cannot fly while wearing heavy armor or carrying more than a light load.
Chitin armor: Your exoskeleton is able to withstand immense punishment. When you aren't wearing armor, your base AC is 13 + Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Extra appendages: You have a second pair of arms with scythe like blades attached to them. This allows you to make an additional claw attack as part of your attack action, dealing 1d6 slashing damage plus your strength modifier. these limbs are unable to wield weapons or manipulate items in any way.
Acid spit: You learn the Acid Splash cantrip as well as Tasha's Caustic Brew. Once you cast Tasha's Caustic Brew you must finish a long rest before you are able to do so again. You may also cast it using any 1st level or higher spell slots you have. When you choose this ability you must choose either intelligence, wisdom or charisma as your casting ability modifier.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The khepri resemble massive scarab beetles with a humanoid frame. Their carapace is normally an iridescent blue, with different markings depending on the hive they originated from.

Khepri are omnivores and will eat just about anything.

Naming Traditions

The khapri are not given names at birth. Such individually does not befit the hive. The hiveles often choose a name for themselves based on knick names they earn.

Khepri reach maturity immediately after they hatch with their incubation period being only a few days. they have shorter lifespans than most races with few living longer than 40 years.
