Firekeepers

In the frostlands, the frozen islands far to the northeast of Kildan, there lives a most unusual creature. It's kind has been isolated to this island for millennia, and as such it's uniquely and incredibly adapted to the environment. They are called firekeepers. A strange type of slime only found on these islands. It appears somewhat similar to most other oozes in that it is generally amorphous and slides along the ground. However, the thing that makes this creature truly unique, is the fire that seems to glow within. It's not like some sort of glow emanating from it, there's a hollow space at the center of the ooze within which a fire burns brightly.
It's suspected that through some sort of chemical reaction, the ooze sucks up snow, pulls the oxygen out, and feeds it into the bubble within. With this internal fire, the ooze never has to fear the cold and travels in even the coldest lands unimpeded.

These oozes, when dealing with some of the extremes of temperatures, will seek one another out and combine to form larger oozes and therefore larger fires to further keep them warm.

There are tales of sailors passing by the island, through the snowstorms raging there, they can see towering a hundred feet in the air, massive flames seemingly produced from nothing in the middle of nowhere in the midst of a giant snowstorm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The anatomy of the Firekeeper is very similar to that of other oozes.  It possesses no bones, no tendons, no muscles.  Instead, it appears made up of a sticky substance as of yet not understood by modern day science.  Firekeepers are pale blue in color, with small floating splotches of darker blue floating around inside.  At it's center is a large bubble of sorts, within is an oxygenated environment repeatedly fed by the creature's constant consumption and conversion of snow.

Genetics and Reproduction

The creature seems to consume until it grows large enough to split on it's own.

Unknown.

Ecology and Habitats

These creatures are only known to inhabit the frostlands, a small series of islands off the the northeast coast of Kildan.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Seems to consume anything that it can.

Unknown.

Behaviour

Generally it's sole goals are to continue producing fire, and to consume anything edible.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Though it has no eyes, ears, mouth, nose, or perceptible feeling devices, it does seem to have all of the above senses.  In addition, it seems to have an unnatural attraction to heat, indicating that it is indeed able to see heat somehow.

Conservation Status

Unknown, very few ever visit these islands, and even fewer return. It's unknown how many of these creatures exist, or indeed if it's not just one creature separated into many.
