Verae

A world once filled with magic and mystery that has been replaced by engineering, innovation, and science. The first industrial revolution came about in Varae 182 years prior, with the invention of the steam engine and advancement in wind turbines. Leaps and bounds in technology soon followed, spawning towering cities in a rapidly changing world.   However, science did not always take precedence over magic. The Convergence, an event that occured over a thousand years ago, introduced magic to Verae. A highly advanced magical world, but one dying quickly, melded its world with Verae in order to survive. The denizens of this world did not survive the event, but their magic did. The Convergence drastically changed Verae forever, but it would not last.   With science eventually taking over Varae and its countries, magic, which had ruled for so long, fell to the wayside. In its place arose alchemy. Once a crude and unrefined science seen as a poor-man's magic, alchemy became a widely respected art that grew exponentially. Magic, on the other hand, fell out of favor due to its static and unchanging nature, and a lack of interest in favor of science.
