United Kingdom of Heorot

Heorot is a kingdom located in the northern Valencian peninsula of the same name. It is a land of warriors, craftsmen, druids, and merchants.   The Kingdom of Heorot is divided into ten Holds. Mammoth's Run is the sourthernmost Hold, forming the border with Mare Arboreas and Figaro.   North of Mammoth's Run is the Hold of Juteland, home of the Heorotian capital of Kattlegatt. East of Juteland is the Pinevale, a former Elven kingdom. East of Pinevale is the archipelago known as Tyr na Nog, another Hold of Heorot. North of Pinevale is the land of Ewony, where women rule. West of Ewony is the frigid land of Winterfang. West of Winterfang is the Hold of North Trondlaag. Directly south is South Trondlaag, poorest of the Holds. South of the Trondlaags is Dawnstar, sharing Juteland's western border. Finally, west of Dawnstar is the archipelago Hold of Gaggleland.   The ruler of each Hold is known as the Jarl. However in Tyr na Nog the term Lugh is preferred. Once every twenty years, the Jarls of each Hold minus Juteland convene to elect the High King, who also doubles as Jarl of Juteland, in a process known as the Moot. Typically, the Jarls either elect one of their own as High King or someone of sufficient renown.   The laws of the Moot are:   1- The Jarls must vote independently. One Jarl, one vote.   2- No non-Heorotian may be elected High King. All candidates must be native born and trace their linneage to Heorot by at least four generations.   3- As per the laws of the Magic Council, no mage may be elected to be High King.   4- A candidate must win a minimum of five votes to be crowned High King.   5- Women are not disqualified from being nominated or elected to High King.   6- Elves and Gaggles are not disqualified from nomination or election.   As the Lugh of Tyr na Nog is always a mage, this makes said Hold's vote a crucial one; historically, Tyr na Nog has often been the deciding vote on who becomes High King.
