Veil Lands
Smoke billowed once more from the large chimneys of the industrial complex of Port Dimar. From her perch upon the cliffs north of the city, one could see the carriages heading to and fro through the streets, as if nothing had ever happened. Gone was the threat of strikes by the rail union workers, at least for now. What they didn't know is why so many of their members had died of 'safety' accidents.
She'd dealt with the spectre, the former human turned into a thing that drained the essence from people, leaving them looking as if they had suffocated deep in the mines or in the steel processing plants. Rumors persisted of course, but already? The newspapers attention had turned to the next spectacle, the incoming steamer, the latest of its class, needing no sails at all despite it's size. It'd dock in the city in a few days time, and already celebrations were underway to proclaim the scientific progress it promised to bring to the people.
