The Kiss of Death
The bite of a siren is a deadly thing for many reasons, namely due to the ferocity of a siren's feeding response. However, if a victim survives such a bite, there are side-effects that linger often indefinitely following the incident, some of which can be just as lethal as the siren's fangs themselves.
Known as the Kiss Of Death, the name of this affliction comes from the legends surrounding the early sirens. In all stories surrounding them, sirens are told to be radiant, creatures with songs as bewitching as their unparalleled beauty—and with a lust for blood unmatched by that of any creature upon the earth. Eternal as they are, they are harbingers of death, yet known to be alluring to all who walk the earth, whether for their guile or their charm.
As such, tales of their savagery have spread across the land, as a foreboding to any who encounters a handsome stranger at the seaside. As stories say and history has proved, sirens are willing to use every weapon in their arsenal to take what they desire—the lifeblood of all that walks upon the earth.
Sirens are beings of inherent connection. They vy for others—and the power of their bite destroys this mortal desire within the victims that they leave alive.
Siren anchors are immune to this, as they are protected by the magic of their siren; however, mortals and infernal alike who have succumbed to a siren's power are susceptible to the Kiss of Death.
The nature of the Kiss of Death is simple: those who survive a siren's bite slowly become hollow, vacant, uncaring of all the world, as if they are living corpses. Their bodies wither. This usually happens within a few weeks of the bite. Each and every time, they fade to dust, disconnected from the world entirely.
This is far from a common affliction, as it only affects those who survive the wounds inflicted upon them by the siren. Still, it is known in legend and brings fear to all who encounter the aforementioned elementals.
