Arctic Merfolk

Arctic Merfolk thrive in the food-rich waters of the polar caps. These merfolk are the most divergent from their kin, losing any fish-like features such as scales, but instead taking on aspects of aquatic mammals. The largest of the merfolk sub-species, arctic merfolk have have a thick layer of subdermal fat that protects them from the extreme cold. Their tails move vertically, rather than laterally, like their brethren, and they have a dorsal fin, while most merfolk do not.
