Kiss of Death

Just as thaumaturgy is one of the opposite subclasses from restoration, so is this spell the opposite of restoration's Breath of Life spell. It's one of the most feared spells that a thaumaturgist can cast because once it's been put in place, there's no way to reverse it. Sometimes it takes minutes for someone to die and sometimes it takes years. Either way, the pain is nearly unbearable.

Effect

At the cost of a portion of one's own life force, this spell marks the unfortunate target for death. Those marked will undoubtedly die, but first they'll experience excruciating pain.

Side/Secondary Effects

The caster has to shave a little bit of their own life force away, so their lifespan shortens every time they use this spell. It's possible to minimize the effect through the strengthening of their mind, body, and spirit, but the side effects aren't altogether unavoidable. Unless a sage has discovered the secret to immortality, which is speculated to be impossible.

Manifestation

The sigil that's placed on the target burns into their skin. As it continues to grow across the target's skin, it burns and causes terrible pain. The mark will eventually spread over the entire body. Once that happens, if they haven't already succumbed to the pain, they'll die.
Gestures & Ritual
The difficulty with this spell is that the caster must place the target directly on the target themselves. They draw the magic into their hand and press the magic to the target. The magic will leave behind a sigil burned into the target's skin.
