The Wild Hunt
The rushing of the wind is the Wild Hunt. It is the Raging Host, Gabriel's Hounds, and many other fierce names. In that wind are snorting horses, baying hounds, and the cheers of the hunters. They are led by the Lord of the Hunt, often conflated with Hundimar Seat of the Sky, and his winds are a sign of ill omen. If you hear the rushing wind, a battle may be afoot, or a terrible storm is approaching.
Traditions
The superstitious will give a halloo to the gale. If this halloo is done in mockery you may be stolen away by the wind, lost to the world forever. If it is done in good faith, a horse's leg will descend and land at your feet. If taken care of till morning, it will turn into a lump of gold.
The winds blow fiercest in autumn and winter. This is the time when the Lord of the Hunt most prefers to ride. Peasants in the north are always careful to leave the last sheaf or measure of grain outside of their doors for the Lord of the Hunt's horses to eat.
This myth is believed in the northern regions.
