Egladin Land of the Fence

The second of the hidden kingdoms of the Elves, Egladin is hidden behind a girdle of magic which not even the most talented of sorcerers can break. It is an ancient kingdom that has hidden recluse since the years of the domination of Nelqora.

The Hidden Kingdom

As with all of the ancient kingdoms of the High Elves, not much is known. It is understood or alleged that a Principality, a divine being, lives here and has in fact wed with the kingdom's ancient Elven-lord Dior Irukil. The Principality's name is said to be Hanael. She is the mother of Eäwen, who was born loveliest of Elven maidens and fell in love with the human Surion against her father's will. Surion set out on an impossible bride task given by Dior and succeeded with Eäwen's help. The two happily wed and had two sons: Calmacil and Anducil. These two, unlike today's times, were not born Half-elves but were rather given a choice by the gods on their coming-of-age day to either join the race of Man or Elf. Calmacil chose the race of Men and Anducil chose the race of the Elves. These children were of the mixed blood of gods, men, and elves.

Of Calmacil, he went from his father's house and traveled with a large retinue of Men of the House of Bel to the far north of the Orridental, where the tribal men of the Corodwalt resided under the harassment of the Altaic Elves. There he established a resistance against the Elves, and the Corodwalt tribes collected under him to attack their oppressors.

Later, Calmacil founded the House of Forn. His grandson, Detheril the Mariner, most famous of Men, was of this House. Though Denthril, son of Calmacil, died in the Seventh War of Hate in a battle against the dragon Young Purple, Calmacil's great-grandson, Fareacil, became King of the Corodwalt. The Corodwalt were rewarded by the gods with the island of Nelqora; and they were now called the Nelqorana, or the High Men of the North. The House of Forn was blessed thereafter, and the Nelqorana were all given long and healthy lives to live.

From Anducil was continued the House of Irukil, Anducil ruled what is today the Vulga, until he was slain by the Black King Elwëdorf in his uprising. Of Anducil was born Dale who slew the Black King, avenging his father, though Dale died of his wounds afterwards. Anducil's reign was storied and loved by the Elves, but on Men, he had little impact, and so he is not entreated in this article.

It can be seen that this Land of the Fence was the progenitor of many of the world's greatest heroes. Supposedly, its king and its beautiful queen still reside here, but there are no records of outsiders ever breaching its magical and hidden walls -- hence why this article has little to say of the kingdom itself.
