Lizardfolk

Appearance

Lizardfold appear as reptilians humanoids. Their skin tones come in a variety of colors, though they tend towards dark greens, blues, and yellows. Their reptilian eyes are most commonly yellow, though they can vary. There is a high biodiversity regarding their stature, some appearing slim as a gecko, others stocky as a crocodile.

Biology

Lizardfolk live short lives, reaching full adulthood by 12 years of age, and averaging a lifespan of 50 years. They reproduce in reptilians fashion, laying eggs that gestate for about 3 months.

History

Lizardfolk history is a tragic one. Lizardfolk homelands are found among the Draconid Isles, at the southern reaches of the world. They lived harsh, tribal lives, having to focus their energy upon survival within the dangerous climate and ecosystem of their homelands. Details of their history are vague, as they keep oral histories, which are more akin to stories and legends than fact. They lived vastly unaware of the rest of the world until the last few decades of the 2nd Epoch. It was discovered by Sorcerers that their homelands were rich in Esperite, the gemstones used to make Aethershards. This lead to a frenzied war between many Sorcerers to control the territory, a war in which the Lizardfolk were caught in the middle.   The Lizardfolk tried to defend their homelands, and began to seek Esperite for themselves, only to use as leverage against the invaders. These wars culminated in the Lizardfolk Genocide, which was primarily (but not entirely) propagated by the Elven Dragonriders. In this event, nearly all Lizardfolk were burned in Dragonfire, leaving no more than a thousand of their kind left. Those that remained fled, scattering to smaller, insignificant islands, or living in solitary hiding for the rest of their lives. This is the event that ultimately propelled Oremar to discover Logicmastery, found the Logicmasters, and begin the Great Purge.   When Oremar founded Meridian, he returned to the Draconid Isled to offer a new home for all Lizardfolk. Many accepted, but others chose to stay. This has since created a divide between the Lizardfolk. Those who stayed have remained tribal, choosing to maintain the old customs, and a sense of spirituality. Those that joined Oremar on Meridian, have modernized, becoming part of the most technologically advanced country in the world, abandoning their old traditions and any sense of spirituality.
