Commune Visitation

History

Quarantine Zones

Soonous has been a generous benefactor to the tribes for as long as they can remember.
A long time ago, the beaches were a last haven as displaced plague refugees in the Floodlands sought after sanctuary.
The corn queens provided food and shelter for them but stipulated that they must not cross into the forested or hilly areas. This was a policy visibly enforced by slingers and bowmen but those on the shores, who all came from different depleted tribes and clans, accepted these conditions and their decedents would return devotion to the queenship as well as any courtier person.   Eventually, once the diseases had run their course; these forced communes became a fixture of the painted shores and developed a reputation for youthful energy and debauchery.

Execution

Tattooing

Tattooing is a form of body modification where a design is made by inserting ink, dyes and pigments into the layers of the skin to change the colour or incorporate meaningful patterns. Tattoos are used in certain ceremonies and to brand personal events onto their skin. It is also used, as one might suspect, to combine the made man and natural colours into a aesthetically pleasing canvas.

Deciding Allegiance

And with comradery built through the beach communes, groups of men and women give oaths of fealty either to the cult or highwatch to take on military roles specifically. Recruits spend long stretches of time in the company of international or intertribal members finding positive connections that encourage interaction. While in their friend groups, these small groups would explore outside the camps, taking extended trips to such places as Muttli, Meiz, Mist Shores Central and Southern Siparia, Lesage, Acadeesi or the forts of the gold bridge.

Components and tools

Housing

Most semi-permanent lodges are made of bundled sticks and dried mud in the areas between the coloured sands and the forests. Huts made of flexible poles and stretched hides or canvas of fibers are popularly adopted by young adults to live their unmarried lives directly on the sand.
There is not a permanent settlement on the beach. You would not be wrong to call it a festive atmosphere, with a life all it own. Peaking at the height of tourist season and troughing for locals only.

Activities

Many tend to conjugate together into temporary communes that dot the sandy shores, where individuals freely engage in sex, drugs and other explorations until they are married. The most sought after activity to acquiring unique tattoos to commemorate special events:
  • Reaching majority
  • Acceptance into a prestigious group
  • Conquering some obstacle(s)
  • Beautification
  • Celebrating an event
But people can get tattoos anywhere. What makes communes so attractive are the glowing dyes that can be pulled directly from the waves to make the tattoos luminous on the skin.

Participants

Locals

Beach Priests
These types of priests take on the position of an unofficial overseer.
It is well remembered, even now, how chaotic the first secluded communes were. Our priests ensure that does not happen again.
— Guardian of the Conch Cult
Through provisions given by the Painted House and security by the cults, the priests ensure there is enough resources to sustain the rotating populations.
Young Adults
Pairs who knew each other in their youth or met within the beach communes might not wait too long to seek out a beach priest and marry. Some prefer to continue on the celebratory lifestyle of a bachelor by joining a beach cult which mandates less time in the communes and sleeping under the open sky.

Foreigners

By the ages of 15 to 16, a tribesman is free to come and go as he or she wishes. It becomes a sort of rite of passage to seek into the camps at an even earlier age and spend a day. Unless they are caught by someone they know.
