The Veiled Bridge

As I approached the threshold of the bridge, it was blessedly apparent to me why the Sucari people hold it in such high regard. The flora came to me first in scent -- luscious notes of cool, coastal bliss and the high sun's embrace. Then, what a sight to be hold! A silken meadow of tender grass, jeweled blooms, and a honeyed mist that lingers delicately on the skin, like a lover's carress under the light of dawn. On a clear day, I am certain that the sky would sing ballads in abundance on this land. But, the veil is enchanting. Yes, I think foot travel is a must in this place. Who would want to desecrate it with carriages and vehicles of the like? Not I!
- Eldon the Traveler
The island of Sucar is a set of two large landmasses linked together via a narrow strip of land. The isthmus is dressed in viridian grass, decorated with iridescent purple blooms, and gently nudged on the north and south by immaculate amethyst waters. The land bridge is a mere mile in width. In the right conditions, one could stand in its center and see both coasts at once. On most days of the year, however, a low fog hangs over the bridge, tiny purple motes of magic dancing between thin sprinklings of gray. The material is pulled up from the nearby waters, which are teeming with ineshti, a valuable substance exported by the Sucari. The Veiled Bridge is, however, an exception to the trade. The sacred ground and its twin coasts are strictly off limits to harvesters.   Travelers are welcome to take a leisurely boat ride between the two major sections of Sucar, but if they choose to travel across the Veiled Bridge, Sucari law requires that they do so by foot.   The Veiled Bridge is also known as the Bridge of Creation or Aara's Rest, which are both references to the origin myth of the Sucari people. It is here that the island was formed, and it was here that the Sucari were breathed into life by the goddess Aara.

Localized Phenomena

With the mist that hangs over the Veiled Bridge (giving it its name), there is a level of magical activity in the air. The extent is unknown, because so few people are permitted to set foot on the bridge outside of the citizens of Sucar. The Sucari people are satisfied with the assumption that, due to the presence of ineshti in the fog, people might be granted visions by the gods if they linger on a particularly saturated day. Some wanderers have been spotted stumbling out of the mists and onto the sunny soil of the northern or southern island, having no recollection of the last few days.
