Drunan Magical Society

History

The Drunan Magical Society was founded by an association of magical practitioners (wizards, warlocks, sorcerers, and the like) from the most popular schools of magic. Their aim is to standardize, educate, and promote the magical arts across the Empire of Druna. They have formed apolitical partnerships with other trade guilds across Valleris, such as the Alnirian Mages' Guild in the Republic of Alnir and the Asran Sorcery Consortium. Despite the occasional bickering between their countries' leaders, the magical arts have always shared a passion and, in that, a level of common respect and civility among its wielders.

Membership

Sometimes simply referred to as The Society, this massive guild has thousands of individuals in its ranks. Its members are headed by formidable masters in the major magic schools, and there is room for every level of expertise, down to the non-magical hopefuls who study low-level alchemical basics, dreaming of the day they will successfully cast a spell. Most Society members are naturally inclined for magic, and their families typically petition for their acceptance into the guild. Benefits of membership can include scholarships for higher education, funding for businesses related to the magical arts, and special access to the secretive Drunan Magical Society Guild Halls that are dispersed throughout Druna.

Chapters

The Chapters within the Drunan Magical Society are associated with the main categories of magic that are most popular throughout Valleris. They include:
  • Abjuration
  • Alchemy
  • Astromancy
  • Divination
  • Elementalism
  • Enchantment
  • Evocation
  • Necromancy
  • Telemancy
Within these chapters, one can find all sorts of class specializations, from bards, to clerics, to warlocks. It is not uncommon for someone gifted in magic to be a member of a specific Chapter of the Drunan Magical Society, as well as another guild that pertains to their class. The Drunan Magical Society does not require that its members maintain exclusivity.

Publications

The Drunan Magical Society owns a series of publications that have long branched out from the original Drunan Journal of Spells and Sorcery. There is a matching journal for each of its Chapters, and publications are released on an annual basis. These are usually quite lengthy publications, with dozens of contributors across the specialty in Druna. Some Chapters have not been satisfied with the annual publication and, with the permission of the mother guild, have added a quarterly pamphlet for short-term and less research-dense items.
