Archdruid Rank/Title in Valleris | World Anvil

Archdruid

In the world of Valleris, there are only three people who currently hold the title of Archdruid. Each one belongs to a different Druidic Circle:
  1. Archdruid Ileshana Adjeni, Circle of Harmony
  2. Archdruid Tor, Circle of the Land
  3. Archdruid Evrad Cloudshaper, Circle of the Sky
While several Circles are known throughout the world, and many of them have their own well-renowned and well-honored members, these three Archdruids have been granted their respective titles via consensus between all druids and the non-druidic communities. They have honed their skills to such heights that they are sought out for guidance and considered fonts of knowledge by members of all walks of life. And, yet, they are notoriously reclusive. They did not earn this rank by answering letter after letter or being treated as magical therapists.   There is no formula or pathway to becoming an Archdruid, nor would the holders of this title prescribe one for anyone. The Archdruids of Valleris would all agree that their recognition and statuses are merely material concepts of the earthly world, and that they couldn't care less whether they were well-respected, so long as they are able to continue their life's work. In this respect, one must dedicate their entire lives, perhaps more than a lifetime, to their druidic crafts. Whether it is communing with the spirits (Circle of Souls) or being one with the ocean (Circle of the Sea), only the most dedicated would ever hope to acquire the mysterious knowledge that has been granted to these rare souls. But, if you're hoping for such a rank, then you're already unworthy of its endowment.

The First Archdruid

Strangely enough, the identity of the first Archdruid is known and agreed upon across all of Valleris, even though their cultural roots have been a topic of prideful debate. The most common names they have been given is Ma'azel or Maze, but some cultures have also called them Esme, Braeleth, Shianjie, and so on.   They lived thousands of years ago, and their lifespan was one of legendary record. Many ancient civilizations spoke of one who had transcended mortal life and its limitations, communing with all lifeforms and taking on the aspect of any that drew breath. There was no Druidic Circle associated with Ma'azel, for their existence preceded any division between practitioners of druidism. All that was known was their limitless wisdom and terrifying power, the earth trembling as they stepped forward with staff in hand, and the skies falling thick with water at their command. The death of the First Archdruid was mourned and documented across multiple ancient civilizations, from Asran to Shan. Some have designated Ma'azel as a god, believing that they had passed on to watch over spirits beyond the veil, tending to the afterlife for eternity.
