Selhim

Selhim is the capital of the Qunai region and geographically within The Shimmer Hills. It is the settlement nearest Lake Volmur.

Government

Qunai is the only one of the Triunic states that has remained as a monarchy. The king (or 'Dorvear') of Qunai is Dorvear Nelreen No-Qunai. Despite the Dorvear's greater authority, Nelreen leaves local management of the city itself to a small council while he handles regional responsibilities.   As part of the Northern Triune, the Dorvear must hold to certain peace terms and attend an annual meeting between the rulers of the Triunic states. The locations of the meetings switches every year, alternating between the three states.

Defences

The city itself has a station of guards and even houses much of the region's standing army, making the surrounding area the safest in the region. Mercenaries are occasionally employed, but they are often used offensively, such as to strike against a group of bandits or hunt down a predatory monster.   To defend against a lake side assault, the docks are able to block and isolate any invaders. Qunai has the smallest navy in the Triune.

Industry & Trade

Many of the citizens are fishermen and farmers. Of the three Triunic capitals, it is the most self-sustainable and least trade-oriented. Mining is a growing occupation, especially with the city's increased ability to defend its workers. There has been a large focus on the white mineral known as Volumin, which seems to be found only in the Shimmer Hills. It is one of the only resources exported from the region as foreign royalty see it as a status symbol.

History

Selheim was founded sometime in the Age of Embers, several thousand years ago. It began as a small fishing village, but grew as farmers from the west arrived. This growth went on for several generation until it became one of the largest settlements in what is now the Northern Triune. How it became known as the capital of an entire region is a more complicated story.   It is said that the nameless founder of Selhim made a deal with a being known as the Heir to the Deep in order to obtain 'the knowledge of war.' The Heir blessed him with this knowledge and he became the Lord of Lights. Within two years of his conquest, he had conquered every settlement along the River Volmur, using his position upstream to his advantage as he cut off their water supply.   However, with the mountain settlement, he had a different approach. In the Age of Mist, monsters plagued the mountainous valley. The Lord of Lights promised the people of the mountains that he would exterminate all monsters that dwelt in the mountains if they would pay fealty to him. They agreed and so, using the power he had already attained by conquering those along the river, he put together multiple expeditions taking place over half a decade to wipe out the monsters.   His plan succeeded and the mountain people assimilated into his expanding empire. Lifetimes later, the Northern Triune formed to push back against an attack from the Haunt and Selhim was naturally named as the capital of the region of Qunai.
