Ruling Slywed

As rulers of the small hamlet of Slywed and the land around it, you are able to invest in the village and hire skilled people to help craft powerful items and aid you in fulfilling your contracts. Having completed your first major contract and won the favour of the Banariamh herself your company has been catapulted into fame and attention. As such you'll attract friends and enemies in equal measure, make sure you invest some of that well earned loot into defences!   Slywed can bring you all wealth and a place to call your own, a place to contemplate and pray, to study that new tome or to just punch up some practice dummies. The following guide will give you some ideas as to how you customise Slywed and your home.   Buildings   Being lords has to have benefits, you can have a range of buildings constructed with a range of benefits, the table below gives some examples. Once constructed, the buildings can still be improved upon (extended, given better supplies, upgraded) however this will often require considerable gold and perhaps special resources or quests.   A sanctum can be a small chapel, a high tower or any other room you can think of where you can be alone with your patron, be they God, Fey or even Fiend. Building a sanctum increases your favour with your patron and allows you to summon powerful servants while nearby. It also allows you to communicate more clearly with them, increasing the effectiveness of spells such as commune and divine intervention, essentially making it the only place to be when beseeching your patron for aid. Just as one size doesn't fit all neither does one sanctum suit all beings. A sanctum is highly personalised and can only work with one patron.   A grove can be made outside the village, filled with plants and tree and welcome to all of Valeun's wild animals. allowing the user to deepen their connection to nature, granting bonuses to nature related checks and saving throws while in Slywed. A grove also presents the chance to find many rare creatures and commune with them.       Hirelings   But George I hear you say, who will look after Slywed while we're off adventuring and killing innocen.....bandits? Fear not it's been thought of! You'll have the chance to hire your own steward who will oversee things while you're away. In addition you can also hire a number of hirelings to do a lot of the menial work for you. this will be a group of unskilled hirelings and one or two skilled ones, these can be sent out into the world to perform odd jobs or investigate things for you.   You can also try and recruit skilled people to help craft unique and powerful items. for example you may recruit a famous smith to craft you and a new flail and an enchanter to imbue it with powerful magic. Maybe you want a rare mount like a griffon or guard drake, well you'll need someone skilled in looking after them. More often than not finding these npcs will require a mix of persuasion and favours rather than paying them outright.   Initially Slywed will only be able to support a small number of your hirelings but as you invest in the village you'll find the numbers it can support will increase and possibly start making you a profit...
