Winter Solstice in Eth

The winter solstice is one of the most important celebrations of The Divine Light.
As the days grow shorter and shorter, the city slowly hovers closer and closer to the ground. Two days before the winter solstice the city lands and traders are sent out. But that is of little interest to most citizens as a 4 day celebration starts at the same time.
During these dark days when the sun has abandoned them, they light all candles, torches, lamps and fires and a hymn starts to rise from the central district. It is said that the city can be seen from miles away during these festivities.
Over the course of two days, as everyone finishes up their work tasks the streets fills with people, all celebrating, spreading light and joy to combat the dark. Communal feasts are held in the streets of each district. Decorations are hung up on all possible surface and the entire city is transformed into a festive and joyous place. As the solstice nears it's culmination everyone gathers around the central tower where the Hymn of Light has been sung for 2 days straight. The gates to the tower are opened and all the citizens of the City of Light are welcomed in. At the night of the winter solstice a great feast is held in the tower, and everyone stays up all night, celebrating, spreading light and joy.

History

The celebration is as old as the Light and her people. Banding together during the days when the Light is gone, spreading their own light to compensate, is the only reasonable thing to do. How else to combat the Dark?

Execution

Anything and everything that can cast a light is turned on and lit up. The whole city tries to abolish darkness from within their walls for four days.  Darkness does not only live in the corners of a room, but in the hearths of the people to, so communal feast, parties and celebrations are held to combat the darkness of the mind.

Participants

The priesthood sing the Hymn of Light to light up the hearths of the people as all citizens of the City of Light all play a part to keep the darkness at bay during these days.

Observance

These rites take place during the four days that are the peak of winter solstice. Two days of preparation that culminates in th egrand feats in the tower, and then two more days when the light in each citizens hearth is maintained by more communal feast in each district.
