Life in The Crossroads

General Order

The Crossroads is considered a white zone as it is a big city with fully functioning safety protocols against outside threats. However as one of the biggest trading locations in Utropia general lawlessness prevails in much of the city. The Crossroads is split into districts each enforcing their own rules. The City Watch patrols the main streets but generally stays away from going deep inside the districts. Business owners typically hire muscular folks or make deals with whoever is in charge of the territory they trade in to stay in business. Since many traders, merchants and adventures come and go every day, the streets are usually crowded and theft is common, so hang on to your purse if you do decide to visit.

Serious crimes, such as arson, can reported to City's Magistrate located in the Civic Center in the middle of the Crossroads. If the situation is deemed serious enough, the Magistrate's Watch is dispatched to investigate. Members of the Magistrate's Watch use veteran stat block.

The main issue with the Crossroads is its Black Market. It is also the main attraction for those who visit the city. The location of it is a strictly guarded secret, the only thing that is known about it is that it is happens at nightfall, so the main reason for the City Watch to patrol the streets is to catch those trying to attend. There is no curfew per se, however everyone is required to stay in their districts after 10 pm.

Important Figures and Organzations

Mayor Wonton and his Council

Mayor of the Crossroads is a distinguished Flocksi of 198 yrs old known for his wisdom and political speeches. He has managed to maintain a good relaitionship with the Senate and the Assemblies of Utropia, which allowed the Crossroads to maintain its independance despite its bad reputation.

Underbarons

There are six underbarons, each one is the equivalent to the master of the thieves guild, that coexist in the city sharing their income and the influence. The business in any given area operate under the protection of one of the underbarons.

Pengie. This lawful evil dohwar is in control of the Black Market. He shows himself to those he deems worthy in the dark alleys.

Cyric Cloudfang. A shakh-ar that runs Xenotermination, LTD, an organization that specializes in capturing and killing tough Wildspace creatures. He has a group of highly trained mercenaries working for him that allows him to fully control the Shakh-ar district.

Shadow. A mysterious mind flyer hiding deep within the West Side of District 6, who specializes in smuggling. He hides many dark secrets but no one is able to touch him due to District 6 reputation.

Lord of the Underdogs. A human self-proclaimed lord in control of East Side of District 6 and the Burrows. His gang the Underdogs makes money of drugs and prostitution in the two poorest areas of the city apart from the weastern district 6, which is Shadow's territory.

The Businessman. A half-Nym that runs the guildhouse called the Company. They are a thieves guild under the facade of a trading company that contols the entire Trading District that includes the Market.

Mochi. A Flocksi that runs the One-Eyed Fury Syndicate. They control DST (District Science and Technology), mostly consisting of Metas and Flocksi. They make money with weapon trading. One-Eyed Fury Syndicate is in constant war over territoty with the Company. Rumor has it that Mochi lost his eye to the Businessman in one of their altercations.

Districts, Places and NPCs

Trading District

The richest and most influential district in the Crossroads.

Cheap Papaya

One of the largest and busiest taverns in the Crossroads. An establishment that is popular among space travelers visiting the city. It is ran by Dr Orangutan, a respected hadozee with a PhD, although no one knows what that is. Rumor has it, Dr Orangutan was even invited to work at the Meta Center, the most prominent research faciliy in the city. He however declined the offer and chose to run his own tavern instead. He has a helper named Jenny, who is a young plasmoid that helps him run his business.

The Market

The main attraction of the Crossroads. A huge market where you could find almost anything you want from all over the galaxy. A chaotic expanse of small vendors, street performers, beggars, orators, merchants and customers of all desciptions.

The Company

A trading company ran by the Businessman. That is only a facade though, in reality the Company is a thieve's guild that controls the Trading district. However if you would like to speak to the Businessman himself you are more likely to find him at Cheap Papaya, his favorite drinking spot.

Bloodbath & Beyond

A smithing store ran by a Giff named Fabron.

Startravel Lines

A charter service that ferries passengers from the Crossroads to destinations throughout Wildspace systems. The captains who work for Startravel Lines are capable and dependable.

Shakh-Ar District

One of the smallest districts in the Crossroads and home to many Shakh-Ar.

Xenotermination, Ltd.

Ran by Cyric Cloudfang and his group of highly trained mercenaries that control the entire district. They are combat specialists and spell casters that make a living by hiring themselves to capture or kill formidable Wildspace creatures. From time to time Xenotermination takes on temporary memebers, who are sought out because they have a particular talent. Anyone who wants to offer their services is welcome to visit their main building and speak to other members.

The Temple District

Separated by the Neil river from the rest of the city, home to many Nym and water creatures, the Temple district is covered with greenery and ponds.

The Temple of Three Sisters

A massive temple built on the hill in the middle of the district. It is surrounded by flowers and trees and the hill has waterfalls comming down from it into a small water basin.

The Beads

Beauty shop ran by Nyms, faires and elementals. They style hairs, draw tattoos and insert beads(pearling) under your skin.

White Lotus Remedies Inc.

A potion shop ran by a beautiful nym Xiphalia.

DST

District of Science and Technology. Consists of many Flockis and Metas.

Meta Center

Consists of public library, archives and research facilities. A place where the most talented spellcasters and scientists gather.

The Lead Cache

A weapon trading company that specializes in guns and explosives. Run by Mochi, the leader of One-Eyed Fury Syndicate.

Disctrict 6

East Side

Controlled by the Underdogs. Filled with cheap taverns, brothels and adult theatres.

West Side

The Grafted territory controlled by Shadow, one of the 6 underbarons. Due to horrifying rumors outsiders usually do not come here.

The Burrows

Consists of mostly slams and underprivileged creatures. Also Underdogs territory.

Civic Center

Although not considered a part of any district, it is a political center of the Crossroads where mayor Wonton and his Council resides.
