Treaty of Brandemburg

The treaty of Brandemburg was a document signed between the German State and the Colombian Government in 1911, by which the German promise was to make hostilities in Europe to come to an end while the Colombians offered technological and economical support in case of a European war started.

Background

Tensions in Europe were very high by the 1910's, with Empires arising very quickly and colonization in Africa and Asia almost coming to an end. Countries like the United Kingdom had created a strong colonial presence in the world, while others, like France, had been suffering through series of smaller wars, losing colonies and world power very quickly.   In America, Colombia had been on a similar situation with her southern neighbours for years, with tensions encalating quickly after a series of border incidents in the Andes.   The treaty of Brandemburg was an attempt of keeping international peace by Germany and Colombia, which would later be expanded to cover a series of countries from all continents, and eventually leading to the creation of economical and political ties between these countries into military alliances and economical pacts.   By the time World War One started, Germany, the United Kingdom, Colombia, and a lot of other nations had already done preparatives, and even though no one anticipated what was to come, the first attack did not come as an instant shock but as a planned defense.   The Treaty of Branbdemburg would also set the bases for many military and diplomatical alliances that happened during the 20th century, being also considered as the main reason of both why the war was brought into America and whythe war had only a short term economic impact on the world.
