Salem Witchlands

Structure

The Inner Coven, while once mortals, now rule the various Covens of the Witchlands. Seven of these rule the Lesser Covens of Sin, which are composed of the classical seven sins, each with its own role in maintaining the dominion of the Eternal Priestess. The five Greater Covens each represent the Points of the Star, each of which have more obscure and eldritch purposes than the Lesser Covens.

Public Agenda

To spread the influence of the Eternal Priestess, increasing her power so that she can perform the Great Ritual and create a portal to Hell with which she shall invade the world.

History

The Witchlands were founded after Damnation Aspenwell brought about massive civil unrest in New England shortly after the Dragons returned. She then took over and founded the Witchlands to be governed by her and her newly inducted coven members. They have conquered most of the northeast of the former United States, and also brought about the collapse of the United States midwest shortly after taking Boston.

Demography and Population

The total population of the Witchlands is unknown, but is estimated to be around 2.000.000, not counting the horde of monstrosities kept for war.

Territories

The Witchlands control much of the land to the south of the St. Lawrence River, as far south as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. While most of this land has become resigned to living under the oppressive rule of the Inner Coven and Damnation, Nova Scotia is generally considered to have more independence, and maintains some democratic institutions. Much of the land south of Upstate New York has only been taken in the war with the USPA, and as such still hold out hope for liberation, though there is little active rebellion.

Military

The military of the Witchlands contains very few humans, mostly consisting of monstrosities created by the Inner Coven, Ogres, Orcs, Ratfolk, and a few mutants that swore allegiance to the Covens after being driven from their old homes. A number of witches act as generals and strategists, but few actively fight in battles unless they are members of the Lesser Coven of Wrath.   It is thought that most of the monstrous members of their army were transformed from normal humans and mentally reprogrammed until they only knew death and destruction.

Religion

The inhabitants of the Salem Witchlands are generally Christians of various denominations, with the exception of those who have become members of the various covens of the land, and are inducted into a version of Satanism founded by Damnation, which has several notable differences from previous interpretations.

Foreign Relations

The Witchlands wish to control the northern lands of the USPA, and has been actively engaged in war with them for nearly a century. While they generally have little interaction with the Lakes Confederacy due to the magic-dampening effects of the Great Lakes and the strangeness of the Appalachians, they are hostile, and occasionally curse the lands with disease or conflict.

Agriculture & Industry

Most of the normal people of the Witchlands practice agriculture, similarly to the USPA, but it is made difficult by the near-constant fog and deadly winters. Industry in general is almost non-existent due to a lack of reliance on normal supplies due to the Lesser Covens of Greed, Gluttony, and Sloth being able to conjure items and raw materials from nowhere.

Trade & Transport

External trade is nonexistent, with the exception of a few smugglers. Most travel is done by horse or flight.

Education

The education in the Witchlands is generally from a person's parents, and is generally religious in nature. Once a person chooses a profession, or one is chosen by their parents, they usually enter into an apprenticeship to learn their trade.   Little is known about the education of those who join the covens, but only about half of those who try are seen again, so one can assume the process is harsh.
