Home At The Centre Of The Maze

A ramshackle village built from scraps within a clearing deep in The Hedge. Houses those hopelessly lost.

The largest of the handful of small settlements within The Hedge, Home At The Centre Of The Maze is a a clustered village constructed from scrap, the few possessions wanderers had on them and natural materials sourced nearby. It is a place of little hope; residents hold no remaining aspirations of escaping back into the wider world. Some, especially those in positions of authority, have become worse, actively sabotaging those who attempt to leave.

Demographics

A wide range of travellers have made their home within the settlement. The majority are from Urvén itself, but a few fey creatures and even some natives of more distant planes offer their own services.

Money has no real meaning within The Hedge, so the material wealth a traveller had before they arrived bears no relevance to their status within. Useful skills and arcane ability, however, are highly valued.

Government

Home At The Centre Of The Maze is loosely governed by a small group of beings who refer to themselves as "the council". This council is led by a Tyresiana, a nymph, who greets all new arrivals warmly and personally.

Decisions are put to a majority, although it appears that Tyresiana's vote is always cast to agree with the general consensus. Whether she is always in tune with the views of the council, or whether she wields influence over them, people cannot say.

Infrastructure

Home At The Centre Of The Maze is small, so is supported by just an allotment and a well. Any further supplies must be sourced from new travellers or from within the maze itself.

The ramshackle buildings are arrayed around a small town square, within which hawkers attempt to trade any new trinkets they have acquired.

Geography

The settlement is formed within an open pocket deep in The Hedge. The grass-covered ground is almost completely flat, though the maze itself spreads up a hill on one side. Bordering this space is a particularly tall, tangled section of greenery that confounds attempts to build tall enough structures to see over. This outer wall has a total of five passageways out into the maze, but their location and total number has changed with time.
