This world is a magic-heavy setting inhabited by a number of wildly different species. While most are humanoid, that is generally where the similarities end. Humans exist here and most of the other species might be described as "beastfolk" in another setting, ranging from tall creatures resembling scaly lions to small multi-limbed tree-dwellers to nomads so large that they have to walk on all fours just to balance.   This setting is currently undergoing its equivalent of the Enlightenment. New technologies are being invented and ideas are spreading across the land at unprecedented speeds. While the study of magic has been of greatest concern to most scholars, the natural world is also increasingly becoming a focus of study. The musket and mortar have largely replaced the crossbow and the trebuchet.   My project is intended as a setting where I can write basically endlessly with just enough constraints to keep me going in any one given direction in a single story. This is a world where, for instance, an exploration party of sharkpeople can explore the lands far beyond the rabidly volcanic mountain range that forms the border of their country and even run into other explorers coming the other way or one of the gods can decide to experience the world for themselves and be deeply moved by the people they encounter.
