Celestial Pantheon of Urth

The Celestial Deities are commonly referred to as simply the Gods. These are divine beings from the outer planes who grant powers to clerics, paladins, druids, and warlocks that are dedicated to their causes. The gods have enormous power, but they cannot enter Urth wholly. They send avatars of themselves to walk amongst the peoples. They have ancient beasts and creations that do their bidding. Avatars are elements and flesh and blood imbued with a bit of their power. These forms may have several known shapes, varied faces and usually stay for a short time. They make their presence known, often to correct grievous wrongs. The gods are known under many names in different lands. The gods shepherd different paths through life, ways of thought, and professions. They have gifted much knowledge to the races and offer guidance. They are deeply integrated into society and guild houses often function as a benefactory house. The clergy of a god fill professions related to them, so the integration of the guild and the clergy can be very substantial.   The gods do not compete against one another, any more than the plumber and the cobbler are competing. The gods' power comes from within themselves and the outer heavens where they reside. They do not need worshippers in order to have power. But, because the physics of the Inner Planes resist them from bringing their greater powers here, they need eyes, ears, and hands within the world. It is said that a faithful's thought, speech, or prayer that invokes the idea of a god connects them to that god at that moment. Like a swarm of eyes and ears on the world, the gods see and hear from the minds of the devout everywhere, all at once.
