Divine Domains

Death, Arcana, Knowledge and Grave

Holy Books & Codes

Volgoris has authored five texts during his existence, known quite simply has the five books of Volgoris. His first mortal followers on the material plane penned a tome, containing the ten Tenets of Volgoris known as the Amplexum. Through the Amplexem followers are taught how to apply the tenets to their own lives, so they may serve him in life and spread his faith through the realm in their actions and words.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The divine symbol of Volgoris, is a sword, with a pommel shaped like a skull, with a black Rose intertwined with the sword. Each of the three parts represents a tenet or domain of Volgoris, designed to appear abstract by themselves. The Skull represents the force of Death, while the sword it is part of, is the representation of honour and bravery in combat, so that one may bring death to his enemies. Finally, the Black Rose on the sword hilt is a representation of undeath and the black magic surrounding it, symbolising the knowledge and power the power may bring. The symbol is often worn as a necklace or pendant by the followers of Volgoris, or bear the symbol on their weaponry or armour. The most devout of his followers, those that have pledged their lives to him in the fullest capacity, will mark their skin permanently with his symbol, having it branded onto them and coloured, a strange practice not copied by the followers of other gods. This is considered a great honour to permanently bare the mark of their God and is usually done by necromancers, to symbolise their eternal connection to the God of their craft.

Tenets of Faith

I. Death is to be treated as a noble sacrifice and their passing is to be honoured for who they were in life and not mourned for that life ended.   II. Death never comes too early or too late, for time marches at the same speed for all and all march in the same path in the same direction towards the same goal.   III. To run from death is to be a coward. To accept death is to be a warrior. To embrace death is to be a hero.   IV. The end of life is not a dangerous journey, but it’s not a pleasant journey. It’s simply a journey that all of us must take and how we choose to take it is in our own hands.   V. If you think you can cheat death, he’s already cheated you into thinking you’ve won.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Volgoris as a divine being surprisingly has few goals compared to the other deities, seeking only to uphold the continuous and cycle of life and death, crushing anything that threatens to oppose this cycle. As such those in the mortal realm that attempt to cheat death with unnatural means are punished in some cruel ironic way by Volgoris, as he often grants them their wish of eternal life at a terrible cost. To uphold the cycle of life and death, Volgoris spends a portion of his time and resources, protecting the Goddess of life Sequana as without her the natural order cannot continue. He takes any threat to the Goddess very seriously, coming to her defence, in any scenario she cannot deal with herself, whether that be martial conflict, or an argument between other gods, taking his role of overseeing the natural order incredibly seriously and allows nothing to distract him from his task.
Unbeknownst to many of the younger gods, and a large proportion of his followers, however, is a secret burden Volgoris must shoulder by himself, to defend from an existential threat to the realms themselves. The entity known to many only as the great old one, was imprisoned in a tiny realm by Volgoris during the War of the False King, after he defeated the entity and its armies, when the other gods failed to contain it. The beast is thought dead by most of those that knew of its existence, with only Volgoris and his trusted companions knowing that the beast still lives, as they alone contain the monstrosity, and prevent it from escaping its prison and once again wreaking havoc on the realms.
