Qan Crystals

"Most people with some type of magic in their blood like to go out to the fields and play around with the crystals. Most of us—them, I mean them—just change small things like eye color, or something that's easy to be seen.
— Justin Fresa, DMV employee

Mechanics & Inner Workings

That these stones work, most say, is due to magic. However, there are beings of science who say that needs to be something else behind the magic, or at least rules about what can and cannot be done.    However, these are not wishing spells, and the following rules have been learned:
  1. If a person touches a stone, the strongest action will be pulled out of them. [Note: this led to the discovery that Professor Adval was lying when he said he wasn't angry at Professor Louis for stealing his lunch - the good professor choked his coworker and his hands had to be pried away before permanent damage was done.]
  2. The strength of the magic used is in proportion to the size of the crystal.
  3. Once a crystal has been used, it will shatter into dimmed fragments.

Significance

These crystals are used to heighten a person's inner strengths, and because "strength" is a neutral word, and what is strong within a person can be either positive or negative for themselves and others around them.   The weight and size of the crystals determine how much the strength can transform the world around the holder.
  • fragment - effects are felt for a minute or two
  • pebble - effects can be felt for almost an hour
  • stone - effects, if small, may be permanent, or if they aren't small, may be felt for several hours.
The larger the stone, the more the effects become permanent.   Currently, there is no idea that used crystal shards are significant, however an intelligent young woman named Rune will take these shards and use them in potions to help people "level up" the weak areas of their body. In time, there might even be treatments for specific magical illnesses and diseases.
Rarity
The qan crystals are rare in and of themselves, but are usually around the size of a person's fist and not an average human child. The fact that this crystal had been able to grow that large in mass has been deemed a once in a lifetime possibility.
