Divine Magic

Divine magic is the power of the gods lent to mortals who are deemed worthy. It is less common than elemental magic, but it is relatively easy to get low-level divine magic if you follow a god's teaching closely. Some animals also have divine magic, but this is rare. In the cases that it does happen, it is given to the entire species. One's ability to use Divine magic depends on two things: divine favour and skill. Favour determines the overall power of one's magic and what techniques are available to them, but practicing allows for faster and more efficient casting.   At the most fundamental, Divine magic enforces the Realm's reality in an area. This makes it incredibly useful for killing or restraining demons and Eldritch mages, whose abilities go against this reality.

Divine Favour

The favour of at least one god is needed to gain Divine magic. A low level of favour is easy to get; working for that god's church and being a moral person will get you this. What is seen as moral depends on the god however, and while some things are universally seen as moral, there are many other things that the gods disagree on. Gaining higher levels of favour usually requires devoting more time to religion and sometimes doing things specifically asked of you by the god or one of their apostles. The highest levels of divine favour are only given to the god's champions; people chosen by the gods to carry out their wills and defend Unis from great threats.   One can also gain Divine magic abilities by proxy from people who already have them. This can only be done if the person sharing their power truly and completely trusts the other.

Classifications of Divine Magic

Unlike elemental magic, the techniques used in Divine magic are completely separate, rather than extensions of the same basic principle. Each class of divine magic is given individually based on how much favour a person has. While the order in which classes are given is similar between gods, there are some differences.

Gift of Tongues

The most common class of Divine magic, the Gift of Tongues allows the user to understand anything said to them, and allows anyone they speak to to understand them. It does not give the ability to speak or read other languages, however.

Pyromancy

This class of magic allows the user to summon divine fire. Unlike regular fire, divine fire never produces smoke, and is extremely effective at hurting demons. It is also visually distinct, with the fire's appearance and colour changing based on the god the ability was given by.

Conjuration

A class of divine magic that allows for the creation of temporary constructs. They can be formed in any shape provided the caster is skilled enough, but are mostly used as shields, walls, and weapons. These constructs will never break, as long as the user has the power to sustain them.

Floromancy

This class of magic allows for the generation, growth, and control of plant life. Regarded by many as useless, this class of magic is weak in combat, but can be quite useful while out in the wilderness. All types of plants can be controlled regardless of the god, but generated plants have distinct appearances which differ based on the god this ability is given by.

Enchanting

A rare class of magic, enchanting includes not only the enchanting of solids, but also alchemy; the enchanting of fluids. Enchanting can be used to permanently modify the traits of an object, making it quite useful. Enchanting cannot be done on organic matter.

Animation

Animation gives the ability to create life. This ability is coveted by the gods, and as such is rarely seen. Those who can perform animation make huge amounts of money from the creation of elementals and automatons, which are highly valued as workers and soldiers. Animation can create any level of intelligence with enough skill; anywhere from drones that can only follow orders to fully sapient beings. Animation can only affect inorganic matter.

Transmutation

This is the most coveted form of Divine magic, given to only a few at a time. Transmutation allows the user to permanently change anything into anything else with the same mass, including themselves and others. Most regard it as not only the most powerful class of Divine magic, but also the most powerful magic of all.
